Bridal hair color

Elizabeth, on November 1, 2018 at 2:31 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 25
OK everybody time for another question I have no idea what to do with my hair I definitely need to die it because I am going way to grey for my liking for the wedding. So it’s a matter of what color, for the past seven years I’ve had fashion colors like purple, blue, pink, and various combinations of other things and I really loved it and my fiancé loves them but my family is concerned that it’s not traditional enough and not quite as timeless and so in 10 years when I look back the pictures are going to feel really dated, so they want me to go to a dark brown, timeless and close to my natural color. They’ve been saying that for a while and it’s kind of getting to me to the point where when I got engaged last year I stopped dying my hair completely and have let it grow out so I would have a clean base for whatever I do decide to do. The problem is I have no idea what to do, my wedding isn’t that traditional to begin with, but my family is so vocal, and my FH doesn’t have a preference, I’m pale with a neutral undertone so I can handle almost any color, I’m just not sure what I want anymore let alone what to do.

thanks in advance for the help

Do you think you could maybe do something like this?

That way you could have most of your hair close to your natural color to please your family but still have a splash of fun color(s) for yourself?

You should do what you're comfortable with. Honestly, I'm sure there will be something about all of our weddings that in 10-20 years we will say "why did I pick that???" for some it could be decor, or the dress, or your hair. I'd worry about what makes you feel confident and beautiful now! I personally like more natural tones because I think the brides hair shouldn't distract from her smile (or her likely very expensive dress) but fun colored hair is a big part of some peoples personalities! A friend of mine had very very bright red hair at her wedding and she rocked it because it was totally her! Only you can make the decision, don't let your families opinion sway you! Thankfully you have a while to decide on the final color!

That is a really good idea, I have only done my whole head so I didn’t even think about just a small piece, I will keep that in mind.

You bring up a really good point, I was So concerned with what my family wanted that I completely forgot how bright hair would look against a white dress or how it might be too districting in some situations, thank you! I am glad I have some time to think before I have to decide

I've dyed my hair this pinky red for a while and I'm definitely keeping it for the wedding. The color makes me feel the most beautiful. You should do the same. Pick what makes you feel beautiful.

Hi Elizabeth! Welcome to WeddingWire! I completely agree with everyone above! Go with your gut and choose whatever makes feel beautiful and happy! Also, I have heard of some brides choosing to have their hair as their something blue, which I think is a really neat idea! Smiley smile

We sound similar with dying our hair! My hair is naturally dark blonde/light brown. Over the past 10 years, I've highlighted it to light blonde, bleached it platinum blonde, dyed it dark brown, deep red, fire engine red, blue and purple. As soon as my fiance proposed (my hair was platinum at the time), I stopped dying it all together to get as close to natural as possible. My roots have been growing out for 10 months now, I'm also using ovation cell therapy & bought a silk pillowcase to sleep on. For me, I want to be as close to my natural hair & look as I can for my wedding day!

That is one of the reasons why my family was so intent on me dying my hair dark because my hair is naturally a light to medium brown but like i said I have a lot of grays so they knew I was gonna dye my hair one way or the other so they suggested dark so I would be as close to natural me as I could be but I feel more natural with fun colored hair than brown so I think that’s what I’m leaning towards

I dyed my hair a lot too so I decided that I will dye my hair exactly like I had it when we met dark brown with one blonde strip on the side

Your brown hair is really pretty but do YOU. What are your wedding colors? If there’s pink, purple or blue why not have that color in your hair? Highlights or perhaps ombré from brown to blue (or whatever color)? A pop of color in your hair & bridal bouquet would look gorgeous!

Yup, all our weddings will look dated in some way. Look at 90s weddings hairstyles. Not as bad as 80s but it’s still dated already.

Well thank you! Our Wedding colors are slate gray and Tiffany blue and of course white we’re keeping it really simple we’re getting married on a beach. I like the idea of the blue hair that Sam suggested because it can be my something blue and it has kind of mermaid-y vibes so I think that’s what I’m leaning towards I just don’t know yet how much of it to dye, I’m leaning towards all of my hair but I might do an ombre from the natural color to blue that way it’s not as in your face

You don’t necessarily have to die it, you could always add high lights or low lights to cover the gray. Just a thought.

Good point, however I personally want to dye it an all over color, I’m just not sure if that’s a darker brown or a fashion color because I’m just not a big fan of my natural color

Gotcha, I totally understand about the gray. I actually text my hair stylist yesterday and ask her about lights and low lights because I have never put anything on my hair before. I think the wedding is causing the gray hair. Lol

I'm having the underside of my hair as either purple or blue- my hair has been like this the entire 6.5yrs FH and I have been together outside of just out of college when I was applying for jobs. Then right back to the colored hair! Idgaf what anyone else thinks, honestly! I love the idea of some color in there! My hair looks a lot like the first comment on this thread.
