Bridal expo worth it?

Ashley589, on February 8, 2016 at 9:30 AM Posted in Planning 0 19

So my mom bought us tickets to a bridal expo a while ago that's at the end of this month. However, since then, we have booked all of our vendors except for a videographer.

So my question is, is there any point in going since we've already booked everything? I've never been to one before so I have no clue what to expect!

If you still need to book videographer it may be worth it. We always get offered really great show deals when we go to shows, plus FH loves them. Also, I just find them fun to go to. Usually free food and goodies. If you already have the tickets, I'd go.

I went to one, it wasn't all that great or fun. Just a crush of people and overeager vendors. I would check the list of vendors that will be there for videographers and if you see someone you like go. You might be able to get expo pricing or something similar if you're there in person.

Probably not. I went to one last year and it was about an even mix of vendors and scammers. You know, like "Enter your name to win this cookware" but they're actually trying to sell you a timeshare.

I agree with @Jeanne about the crush of people. I thought it was like a feeding frenzy, in a shark tank. And some of the vendors were aggressive enough to be obnoxious. I didn't know the trick about setting up a separate e-mail account, and I was hounded by vendors for months. In the end, we primarily went with the suggested vendor list, from our venue. They keep their insurance papers on file and almost guarantee you won't have a bad experience, with those vendors; they come off the list, if you do.

I would totally still go! You can find some cool ideas that you haven't thought of yet. Also, I found the bridal expo more useful when I had most of my vendors booked already because I didn't feel as overwhelmed to talk to absolutely everyone. Just enjoy it and have some fun Smiley smile

It could be, check the vendor list for the videographers and maybe preview their websites. There will be a lot of vendors you don't need, but the quickest way to shut them up is to say that's you've already booked. Honestly I never found them to be THAT helpful but if nothing else there will be cake and drinks and you might win some cool prizes!

The only ones we do are invitational shows at venues where we are preferred. It's useful for us because very few people book their officiant early. It's useful for the couples because they get to taste the venue food prepared as it would be for a crowd.

The vendors I recommend, by in large, don't do shows like the expos; they're too cattle call-like.

@dreamer and others; you want to know why the preferred vendors are on that list. Are they preferred because they're good or did they pay to be there. It makes a difference.

Maybe not a huge point, I didn't see many videographers at the shows I went to, but they were super fun and you got lots of delicious food samples, so if you already have the tickets I'd go anyway!

I went to one and i didn't know about the separate wedding email list and have been hounded with emails from vendors. It's good for inspiration and some free food and ideas. You can also win some cool things like a friend of mine won her photobooth ... but majority of the things you "win" are actually them just trying to get your info to sell you things or high pressure sales tactics. If you have tickets i'd go but make sure you create an email just for wedding things!!!!

If you still need vendors or style ideas, like the PP before me said, you already have the tickets. At the very least it'll be a nice opportunity to spend time with mom. If tickets weren't already involved I'd say skip it, but that's just because I avoid that stuff like the plague. I hate crowds of strangers so I never went to one. My mom tried to get me to, but it just was not my scene. I told my MOH that the "Super Bowl of All Bridal Shows" (the "best" show in our area) sounded like literal hell to me lol

I think the expo is fun and you may get some inspiration. It was a fun experience with my mom. You may find a good deal on a videographer! Plus the samples are awesome.

Regarding the email thing, we all get lists, but two of my venues specifically tell us not to blanket email everyone; to only send information to the people that let us know they wanted it....

I registered for one but ended up not going, and I have gotten SO MANY DAMN emails and phone calls ever since!!!!! I majorly regret registering for it, I've been extremely irritated ever since, I did not give them permission to give out my email address to every vendor in New Jersey and I just mass delete emails.

Yes, they are so much fun! It's a lot less stress if you don't HAVE to make a decision that day (: I say go, the tickets are already bought!

It isn't completely necessary to go at this point, although they usually have some great displays for inspiration.

Date twin! I went and actually won the services of a videographer! However they did have a stipulation that you couldnt use it for the wedding unless you paid a certain amount of money. But I am sure each vendor is different. Who knows, it could be fun to just go to with your mom and get some free swag.

I usually regret going to them. The vendors aren't always the greatest and it's usually a waste of time and really crowded.
