Bridal Expo Scams?

Erika, on January 31, 2020 at 10:58 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6
After attention a bridal expo, I've received a number of texts and voicemails saying that I won various prizes, including a gift basket, a vacation for two, and boudoir photography sessions.

The boudoir photography seems the most legit. I've received texts from an actual human, and a professional looking email, and the company has several YouTube videos that I plan to look into and read the comments of, but the other two seem really shady. Has anyone been scammed by something like this?
I'm really anxious about the photos as well, even though it looks legit, because it seems like a really easy way to kidnap someone.

My bridesmaid won one but it didn't seem so much a scam as it did being not worth it. She won some travel trip but had to attend these sales presentations. She didn't claim it after doing some googling and seeing most people thought bridal expo prizes were just sales pitches and not all they're cracked up to be. But I think even if she won it she would have had to pay a lot of fees, I've heard.

I won a "boudoir photoshoot" but after some research and some reading in some bridal pages on fb I learned that it wasn't worth it. Apparently they charge you hundreds for a picture after they do the photoshoot.

Like majority of everyone has said you have to sit through a sales presentation before anything, but after watching “Apartment 407” based on a true story) I won’t be doing any photo shoots & if I did any definitely not without my fiancée

The photo shoot is legit, but that's not the expensive part of the deal. Once you get the shoot for free, then they want you to buy the pictures, which are outrageously priced. Some women find this money in their budget to put together a sexy album for their FH. But I just couldn't afford it.

Thanks everyone. I've thought about it and I'm not going to claim it. I'm going to either find money in the budget to pay for my own boudoir photos from a photographer I trust, or wait to do them after the wedding. I'm just going to pass on the other "free prizes" altogether.
