Breast Augmentation after purchasing dress

Tara, on November 9, 2019 at 1:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
So I can’t catch a break. We are renewing our vows after 20 years of marriage and we are redoing the whole thing full wedding and reception, our 1st one was horrible for so many reasons! One of the most exciting things for me was the dress experience! I found it and fell in love. So I have had some pain in my left breast for some time now made sure I got it ckd out and they say it’s a non cancerous cyst and shouldn’t cause a issue. Well they were wrong it’s grown 3 times it’s size and has to be removed, which will disfigure my left breast. Basically told me Getting a lift and implants (which I have wanted to do for years anyhow) will fix the problem. So surgery is 1/30/2020 Vow renewal 3/14/2020 exactly 6 weeks after procedure. I’m sure they will look amazing but I’m terrified that they will not be able to make the changes to my dress as I may need in the time I will have! I need at least 4 weeks which will leave 2 weeks for adjustments. I know this is a odd situation but has anyone done a BA this close to a wedding. I spent allot Of money on this dress, and it’s my dream dress.

If you have a consultation with the surgeon we’ll before you should have an idea of the size your busy will be at. I would let your seamstress know the situation and give her an idea of the change I’m busy size and see how long it would take to make any adjustments. Usually it’s very feasible to change the busy area of a dress!

Thanks Chelsea, he did give me a general size and actually went to VS and got a bra that will hopefully help with alterations

Not before an event but they do swell and they swell a lot! The implants also do not sit in place right away either. They start high and slide into place. Depending on how you heal, six weeks might be cuting it close.

I don't want to scare you but I agree with Jennifer. I am about 5 months out from my surgery, and I already had my dress bought. So, I understand your fears (I STILL haven't tried on my dress to see how it fits lol) However, my surgery was obviously not nearly as close as yours.
I'm trying to remember where I was in the healing stages at 6 weeks.. I actually think I have some photos, which I would be happy to share with you in private if you want to message me! Please feel free to reach out if you need any support or have any questions, either! I'm not positive I'd be able to answer them all, but I am happy to do my best!

Healing varies from person to person, and is going to be based on so many factors. I think one of the biggest factors is how many cup sizes you're going up. You will also be getting a lift, which I did not get with mine, so there is an element here that I am not very familiar with.

If you're getting cups sewn into your dress, your seamstress should know what size to use (mostly) based on the cup size your Dr gave you (she may or may not find the VS bra helpful but you can definitely offer!) They say most dresses can be let out two sizes, hopefully that's enough for your new bust line!

My best advice is to pick a seamstress (if you haven't already), and schedule a time to talk with them. Let them know what's going on, that the circumstances happening are for medical reasons, and see how willing they are to work with you. I'm sure they will be more than happy to do their absolute best to help you out. However I would still be prepared for costly "rush" type fees.

So I went online and did some research because my experience was mine and I wanted to make sure I wasn't giving you any info that was unique to me and me only.

I had a breast augmentation and lift at 20. I never developed breast tissue. What a major blow for a female! Anyway, after reviewing the "average time" for healing, many doctors say breast implants will fall into place in about 3-5 months. This can even go longer depending on healing. All I can say is that mine were MASSIVE (I ended up with 36 DD's..heaven help me) and practically near my collar bone. Thank God they finally slid into place...I was worried until I learned that was completely normal. Also, you will not be able to do anything for awhile. You wont even want a tight shirt. Btw...bring a large button up for the hospital. Lifting your arms overhead will be awful so a button up will save you lots of effort and pain. Lifting in general will be a no no. I remember trying to take a bath..such a bad idea.

I am not wanting to scare you but this is a pretty invasive surgery and healing is of the utmost importance. Your chest will look great once healed but I do worry that your time frame is not feasible. I would hate for you to be sore, swollen and have the implants not in place yet...especially on your special day! Is there any way you could postpone the surgery and maybe just have to built in Cups to help even things out?

Thank you so much for all the information, so sweet of you! Unfortunately the pain from the cyst has gotten somewhat unbearable. On top of losing 30lbs when they remove it he said it’s large enough it will deform it! They want to do the surgery at the same time so I’m kind of between a rock and a head place lol! They are supposed to call me next week and see if there is a shot they can give me to help the pain to get me through the next 6 months but the nurse seems to think it could make it worse.

Don't fret! I checked my photos and honestly, even at week 1 I was feeling pretty good about everything. The weirdest angle was the side- I had "torpedo boob" lol! But that was naked and only dramatic for the first 2 weeks. Also, when I put on clothes it was much harder to tell. By week 3 I was not on any pain meds (I do believe I was still on a muscle relaxer because they suggest it in order to help the muscles relax and allow the implant to keep settling, not for any pain or discomfort reasons.)

Talk with your doctor and I'm sure they'll say 1la few hours for 1 day in a fitted wedding dress (possibly pushing down on your chest snuggly to make things look more round if you want) won't be a big deal!

I am positive you will look and feel beautiful in your dress. As suggested, just talk with your doctor and seamstress ASAP and I'm 100% they will work with you and will get everything looking amazing! It's a beautiful dress and you're a beautiful lady! You got this!
