Brazilian Blowouts: yay or nay?

Sarah, on November 8, 2017 at 3:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

My wedding is in Kauai, Hawaii in January and my hair does not handle humidity well. We'll be on the island for four days before the wedding spending time with family and a bunch of friends, taking lots of photos, etc. and I would love to not look like a red headed Bob Ross in every photo Smiley smile anyone tried Brazilian blowouts? I've never had one, and am curious, especially since they said they could do straight, or beachy waves which is how I'm doing my hair for the wedding as well. Worth the money, or is there a better way to avoid Bob Ross hair?

I've never had one myself, but my mom does regularly and loves them, she has ordinarily fairly wavy/kinky hair that does not do well in humidity, she used to use a flat iron on it but hasn't needed to since starting the blow outs, and her hair still feels soft

Hey Sarah! Stylist here! so I actually just did one this past Saturday! whew! lots of work but honestly I believe they're worth it, it lasts 12 weeks and just calm down the hair. The thing a lot of people get wrong is that they don't make your hair straight- they calm down frizz and control coarse hair. I'll post photos to show you the difference. It's worth the money in my opinion. Be aware that it's a long service though. Before!

What if you have curly hair that has a fine texture? Is it a waste then?

Sorry to hijack your post but does anyone know if after the blow out your hair will hold curl?

@Doggomom you can use on any texture hair. The point of this service is to smooth the cuticle and prevent frizz, you can still wear your hair curly but the difference is it won't get frizzy or rough it will be smooth and manageable.

Eta: there is a misconception that your hair won't curl- again the Brazilian is not meant to straighten hair it smooths. If you wanted straight hair then you would get what we call a Japanese straightening treatment.

@Raina how long before the wedding would you suggest having it done?

I got one done for my wedding. It does not work like a perm or relaxer so if your hair is curly, it will not make it straight (well it will be straight until you wash it but then it won't be straight). I have super straight, fine hair so not really the normal person that gets a Brazilian blowout but I got it done because my wedding was in Charleston and humidity is crazy in the Southeast. I'm so glad I spent money on it. My typically non frizzy hair was pretty frizzy when I had my hair trial done (combo of hairspray and humidity I think). My hair had almost no frizz on my wedding day. It also cut down my drying time pretty significantly. My blowout was 4.5 weeks ago, it's still noticeably less frizzy and dries quicker. Do your research first though. You'll need to also buy special shampoo and conditioner. If they tell you don't need to buy the shampoo and conditioner, it honestly may not be a reliable place. It was also super shiny and soft which made me want to keep paying for them lol but I probably won't because my hair doesn't really need it and it's expensive.

I got mine done 1 week before the wedding. I would be nervous doing it closer but wouldn't want to do it much earlier either because I wanted it to be fresh.

@katy I would say max a week before the wedding. The closer to the wedding the best it will be again it only lasts 12 weeks. But it's your preference.
