Bra Alternatives for Dress?

Jaycie, on April 24, 2018 at 11:24 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
Hey ladies,
This weekend my mother and one of my bridesmaids will be coming with me to try out wedding dresses at Davids Bridal. Currently, the stapless bra I have is very full coverage. I usually buy at department stores (I don't care for online shopping cause I'm very short and curvy and most things don't fit well so I prefer to try on) and currently wear a 40-G or H depending on the bra.
Not that I plan on showing lots of boob... but my bra I think is too full coverage for dress styles I like. Does anyone recommend any particular brand or product to look for for bustier ladies? I've never tried the gelly/silicone stuff before but not sure about sizing.

I'd just bring the bra you have and figure out your needs during alterations. It's possible that sewn in cups or a sewn in bra will work well. Talk through your options with your seamstress. Also, FWIW I'd recommend finding an independent seamstress, David's charges a lot and the quality of work is pretty iffy

I agree. Definitely find a seamstress local instead of David's Bridal. I have used the same seamstress for years and she charges half the cost of David's Bridal and her work is way better. Sewn in cups is definitely an option to look at.

David's bridal will offer a corset to wear to try on dresses if you'd like and it's strapless. I went with my own strapless corset (and didn't end up wearing it with my wedding dress because it peaked through) that i got from amazon. I ended up purchasing a somewhat pricey strapless backless bra from nordstrom with sticky sides and a regular underwire bra front if that makes sense. The ones that only stick to your boobs did nothing for me and I'm a 38DD.

Are sewn in cups an option? That's what I had in my dress and they were perfect

Thanks. I'll see if sewn in cups are an option for whatever I find and like the style of! As for getting alterations I'll have to ask around who is best to go to.

I didn't worry too much about the bra situation when I went dress shopping. I just wore what I would normally wear. I just talked to the people doing my alterations today and they told me to just come to my first appointment still without a final bra plan and they would see what is needed and we can discuss options. She said that was a better approach than trying to predict and then purchasing something you don't need or won't work that can't be returned.

I personally wore no bra when trying on dresses. I'm only like a 32C so not overly blessed. I'm also not all that shy with professionals. I'll be having bra cups swen in to my dress.

I'm about your size. If you special order from Victoria's Secret for a wedding or black tie event, they've told me that a *small* discount can be applied. It can be pricey, but the ones that me and my mom have gotten have been GREAT. (I had to put it in caps, they were so good.)

David's Bridal has ones that you can use while trying on your dress. I'm actually going to go back closer to the wedding to purchase a bra from there since I know that it fits perfectly with my dress. I am waiting since we are working on losing weight and I don't want to have to buy a smaller one after buying one lol
