Boxed wine?

FutureMrs.V, on December 21, 2017 at 7:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 23
I know I just posted about stepping away from planning, but work is slow and I'm bored. We will have a bartender pouring drinks for our guests. We are just doing beer and wine. We will have two sangrias to choose from as well. We honestly are thinking of doing boxed wine for the guests who don't wish to have the sangria. What is everyone's thoughts on boxed wine? I like wine, but I'm not very educated about it. It would be behind a service window, so guests wouldn't be able to see it.

I don't know a lot about boxed wine, but I do have a friend who is quite educated in wine. He says that Black Box wines are actually quite good. I'm not sure I would be a big fan of seeing wine coming out of a box, bottles always seem more proper, but if you go this route, quality wines do exist in boxes.

I don't see a problem with boxed wine, as long as the white is kept sufficiently cold.

Boxed wine nowadays is not like it used to be. There are some boxed wines like PP said above which are very good! If your unsure which one to buy ask your local liquor store owner, they may give you a discount on a larger order as well!

I would never drink wine from a box, but the wine presentation is super important to me at my wedding.

My family of wine snobs says there are some pretty decent boxed wines now. Black box is supposed to be pretty good.

Please no Franzia. Black box isn’t bad for the red. I’d do a Chardonnay as well as a Pinot Grigio for whites. Usually people prefer one over the other because the taste is very different.

Bota doesn't suck, and Black Box isn't too bad. Both are fairly equivalent to Sutter Home or Beringer, IMO. Emily's (hilarious) post isn't off the mark; presentation is a factor.

I mean, I just don’t think it’s necessary. You can get cases of decent wine so cheap nowadays. And while there are higher-end boxed wines than Franzia, I wouldn’t go that route.

I would use it in the Sangria, and I definitely drink boxed wine at home, but agree it leaves something to be desired when you see it at what should be a pretty classy event.

True. Trader Joe's and Costco house wines are very inexpensive.

Unless you are getting a high end boxed wine, DO NOT do boxed wine.

First, it looks cheap. Second, it's gross. You can get a ton of different wines in a reasonable price point without going the boxed route.

We drink a lot of black box wine at home! We have a friend that works for a liquor distribution company and says that all five of their top selling wines are black box wines.

If we were bringing our own alcohol, I would definitely consider this route.
