Boutonnières with suspenders

Jamie, on October 17, 2018 at 10:25 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
Hi!
I have decided on the grooms attire of wearing suspenders and a bow tie. I had talked to my florist and she said something along the lines of that boutonnières and their outfits won’t be normal. What have people done with their groomsmen and boutonnières? Have them or not?
post pictures if you can!
Thanks

Hi Jamie! Welcome to WeddingWire! Just to clarify, will they be wearing jackets at your wedding? Or, will they just be wearing a shirt with suspenders and bow ties? I think it's totally fine to pin the boutonniere on to the suspenders! Here is a photo for inspiration:

I think this is a very fun look! If you like it, you should go for it! Smiley smile

Boutonnieres belong on the left lapel of a jacket. Much of the English speaking world uses the actual English term button hole, rather than the French boutonniere. There is usually an actual button hole there (might not be cut through though) a boutonniere is historically designed to go into that hole. Currently, they are pinned over it.

Using a boutonniere without a jacket is rather juvenile looking, imo. It looks like a freshman boy at the homecoming dance. The flowers aren't necessary, save the money 😉

The groomsmen are wearing the same attire as you described and we aren't doing boutonnieres, not because I think it looks stupid because I just don't find it necessary and it is an added cost that we can skip. I was also worried that even though the boutonniere can be pined to the suspenders or the shirt that it would be too heavy and wouldn't sit right and I think a boutonniere that isn't pinned right (upside down etc) looks awful! FH will be wearing a vest and I am still unsure about him, I am leaning towards a lapel pin (because his vest has a lapel) but also may forgo it all together as well.

I don't see anything wrong with it! It wont look traditional, but the suspenders look is so fun and unique and without the uptight/heavy suit jacket!

I am having the same issue!! I don't know what to do, but seriously considering more about no boutonniere.. I don't think it looks bad at all, but starting to think its not a necessary purchase.

I think it looks fine. I like the idea. My FH is wearing khakis and a linen shirt so is bm. They will both still be wearing boutonnières.
