Bottles or kegs? What to do?

AshleyR, on August 2, 2016 at 10:51 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

I'm doing beer, wine, and 2 signature drinks. I have someone to serve the alcohol through the caterer but I am providing everything. I have an aquantance that owns a microbrewery who can provide kegs, but there aren't any kegorators or anything at the venue, so I would have to put them on ice somehow behind the bar. The other option is just buying bottled beer and keeping them in coolers. So pro of kegs- better tasting, microbrewed beer, supporting small business. Con- how do I keep them cold? Buying more cups. What would ww do?

We did beer, wine and 2 signature drinks as well. We did bottles because we liked the look of bottles around the venue as opposed to plastic cups. Kegs just seemed to tailgate to me. Plus it takes less time to pop a bottle cap off then fill a cup from a keg. But totally understand that kegs have better tasting beer. You can keep the kegs in trash cans with ice?

We're doing bottles because of the same predicament! But our wedding is outside or in a tent so we really have no where to ice down but behind the bar and bottles just work better for us!

    We are doing bottles..

Pros: Easier clean-up (right into a bag for recycling!), easier to provide a wider selection, easier to give-a-way any leftovers, easier to serve (just have bottle openers!)

We are doing kegs with a jockey box. Same reason that we have a friend at a microbrewery.

We bought a (environmentally friendly) cup for every beer.

We went to a wedding where they had mason jars for all the drinks. Within an hour everyone lost their cups and couldn't get drinks

We did bottles and cans instead of a keg because a keg would be more wasteful. How many guests?

We are doing kegs for the beer, I don't mind the cups because they are provided in my bar service and the venue does the clean up

We did kegs. No waste because they were pretty much empty at the end. Also, they were out of site.

We're having about 85 guests so we're thinking of doing 2 pony kegs and offering 2 varieties. If I just keep it in the plastic buckets with ice do you think it'll stay cold all day?

We are doing two kegs rather than bottles because it is WAY more cost efficient. The venue will be providing pint glasses so there will not be plastic cups everywhere.

I thought I would chime in since I am an Event Coordinator at a beach brewery!

Kegs - Definitely will taste better! 2 pony kegs should be enough since will will also have cocktails. We have used a small kegerator at outdoor beer gardens. For the backup kegs, we kept them in a bucket of ice and had no problem keeping them cold! That would definitely work!

Cons - Having to use plastic cups if it isn't in a venue with a dishwasher. However, you can still find some nice looking plastic cups.

Bottles - Bottles would be the easiest option and look better. Cons - The cleanup isn't great and a lot of bottles can get really heavy quickly. Then you would also need to make a trip to a recycling center to dispose of them.

My recommendation is the pony kegs in buckets of ice!

I went with bottles over kegs for the fact that anything left over in a keg does not last long. Where a bottle can last a long time.

We're doing kegs and using pint glasses so we won't have to worry about plastic cups. We're putting them in trash bins on ice behind the bar. Make sure you put the kegs on ice first thing in the morning or else you'll get too much foam. They have to stay cold.

We're doing bottles as our caterer recommended it. We are providing the bottles, but they serve it. They said that with kegs, it takes longer to serve, so the line can back up.

We're doing kegs. Solving the cup problem by using the venue's pint glasses. Also, our favors are pink cups so hopefully people will hang on to them!
