Bottled beer vs. Personal Koozie with Can?

K2020, on October 28, 2019 at 9:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

I am getting married next September in an outdoor/pavilion-like venue. It is beautiful and we plan to have a semi-formal event. As such, I thought bottled beer was preferred since it appears a little more "classy" than a can (this may not actually be a thing tho- just my thought).

Then I realized how much more expensive bottles are compared to cans, and thought we could do personalized koozies for our wedding and use cans- that way we're not sacrificing quality and the guests even get a "favor" by keeping the Koozie.

Thoughts or recommendations on this? Does it really matter if you do can vs. bottle? Do you think koozies are a good idea? I was thinking we would get about 100 of them for 80 people, but the idea is that people would re-use them and not accidentally throw them out (hopefully).

Thanks in advance Smiley smile

I think bottles look a lot nicer than cans. From what I've seen, they're hardly more expensive at all if not the exact same price (at least for the beers we're using). I think you'd spend more on koozies and cans than you would with just getting bottles. I'm also against personalized wedding favors like koozies personally, no one is going to want to use a koozie with mine and FH's names and wedding date on it after the wedding lol. We're skipping favors altogether but if you're going to do them, I would do something edible before anything personalized, they'll just get left behind.

I think by the time you spend the money on the koozie it would be the same as the bottles. Like you said, I think bottles are a little classier than koozie.

I’m also all for bottles. Skip koozies/favors (really not necessary anymore).

I agree with everyone else about the bottles versus cans but he sure your venue will allow you to have glass. The venue where my son got married didn’t allow glass and luckily we had asked ahead of time.

Thank you everyone for this- it's definitely helpful! And that's a good point Cyndy- I didn't even think of that! I will need to verify with the venue if glass is okay and if it is then I think we'll go with bottles.

I don’t drink beer, so either would be a waste of money for me. Honestly I have more than enough beer koozies shoved in my junk drawer, I would highly advise looking into something else or skipping the favors altogether. Yes, they’re nice the day of, but I don’t know of anyone who actually uses them afterwards.

Not many people use koozies but to be honest the can with the koozie isn't a bad idea

This is a total preference thing... but our wedding was more on the formal side, so we had our beer served in glasses. I think beer bottles and cans both look tacky in photos. Our bar tenders poured the beer in glasses at the bar. It looks much better in the pictures. If you really wanted to do koozies, then as a guest, I would prefer to drink my beer out of a bottle.

I probably wouldn't use a koozie at a wedding, I'd just take the koozie home. But I don't normally use koozies so that's not a big deal. I think bottles are better for formal weddings but cans are fine for everything else.

I price checked this with Bud Light from Walmart. A 24pk of cans is $18.98 and a 24pk of bottles is $17.98. We're doing bottles because they look nicer and we'll also have customized koozies. We're from Texas so this is pretty standard. You can get koozies for less than a dollar each. We have a very large drawer full of them at home and every time we use one, we're reminded of that wedding.
