Botched proposal?

Rosie, on February 11, 2010 at 12:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

My very close co-worker has had his proposal in the works since around October. We live in NJ, but he met his girlfriend in CA, where she lived (until she moved out here with him). As a Valentine's Day gift, he bought her a plane ticket to visit her family in CA for the weekend. Tomorrow morning, instead of going to work, he's going to the airport and secretly flying out there. A few hours later, she's flying out. Her cousin is picking her up, and instead of going home, she's taking her to the park where they had their first date, where he'll be waiting on the bench where they shared their first kiss, surrounded by candles, with her engagement ring. SO perfect! Problem? His flight got canceled, and right now he's sitting in JFK airport hoping to get on a 6am flight, which is likely to be canceled or delayed as well. Did anything threaten your FH's proposal plans? Did anything like this happen to one of your friends? Funny, embarrassing, or just plain disappointing stories?

Well for a romantic Stefan is not But I guess you can't have everything Well after a OK Christmas being dissapointed he didn't propose on Christmas I woke him up before 7 am on the 26th and told him we need to talk. so I made coffee and we sat on the sectional couch me on one end and him in the middle of the other we talked for about an hour or so of our future with each other, the move, how we felt about everything at that point he told me that we would be getting married before we move I was thinking 2 or 3 years down the road no rush just wanted to take that next step in our relationship sence I would be moving to Germany in 7 months or so but no he wanted to do it before the move...

    cont...

HELLO? less than 8 months to plan a wedding? REALLY? He then said that engagments are NOT a big deal in Germany thats when I piped up and said well they are here haven't you seen the He went to Jared's commercials? I then pulled a Titanium ring that I had bought him out and sat in beside him, he put it on, then started to freak out because he couldn't get it off. LOL now that was funny. the only jewlery he wears is a watch I helped him get it off he then put it back on and went off to the other room when he came back just a minute later he handed me my ring no box, no gumball plastic bubble, just the ring and he sat back down no bended knee no will you marry me It was all like a bussiness deal.. I still laugh about it.

My FH had been planning to propose on New Year's (we already knew we were getting married, but he hadn't given me a ring). I had been getting hints that it would be happening so I had taken special care and bought a new dress, had my make up done, etc. Then he found out that his sister is pregnant and she was going to announce it to everyone at the party, so he decided to tell me he wasn't going to propose so that I didn't wait all night just to be let down. I was very sad and it ruined our New Year's, plus I knew his family would expect us to delay getting married so that she wouldn't be pregnant and who knew how long we'd have to wait. So I went home crying and heart broken. But I woke up the next morning with my ring on my finger, stamps on the save the dates I had just ordered, and his sister's STD propped up to say that he had taken care of it all. We have had some bumps in the road because of his family but he has always made sure I was taken care

Hahaha aww Malinda, I guess the cultural difference is a little more apparent when it comes to proposals! I'm so happy that you laugh about it, because your line about the business deal was pretty hysterical. A marriage IS a contract after all, right? Smiley smile

Well it wasn't really botched I thought it was perfect but both our families were upset...him family wanted him to do it at their christmas dinner and my mom wanted him to do it at ours so she could record it and he didn't want to upset either family so he did it when we were alone
