Hi! Just wondering if you mind sharing how much your trip was. We have been looking at the French Polynesia for quite some time but are having a hard time narrowing down which islands and resort. Thanks!!

We are spending two weeks - one week at Hilton moorea in a garden bungalow and one week in a premium overwater bungalow at the pearl beach resort. Flights from LA and all of this looks to be around 12,000 total.

    Hi Cara,

We just got back from Bora Bora for our honeymoon and it was amazing and fantastic. There is only one town on the island and the food is very expensive. The times the few places to eat are open is very limited. We decided the only thing we would have changed was to do a package that included food and drinks. We thought like you that we wanted to experience the local cuisine but the resorts have the same food. The breakfast buffet at the resort we were at was $45 per person and a hamburger was $25 even in town. Enjoy every moment of your wedding and honeymoon.

I know you asked someone else but we're spending around $7,800 for 7 nights in a premium over water bungalow at Manava on Moorea. We went with Moorea because even though it's once in a lifetime trip it's still reasonable. We did look at Bora Bora but you have the additional cost for the inter-island flight and I've read from a lot of people that you're stuck at the resort for the most part. We wanted adventure too. On Moorea you can rent a car and tour the island, go on hikes, the restaurants pick you up, there's a zip line place, and the pineapple plantations. We'll be going in July and I can't wait! We used Samantha with gotahiti.com

Thanks so much for your reply! I think I actually saw a while ago where you posted about using gotahiti.com. I emailed them and never got a response, it's been about 6 weeks. I have talked to multiple travel agents and still so torn! Great price you guys are paying though. I can't seem to find something on Bora Bora for less than 10k.. even for 5 nights. We are thinking about splitting time between Moorea & Bora Bora.

That’s strange Samantha was pretty responsive when we were getting our quotes and booking. With all the research I’ve done Bora Bora is significantly more expensive all around. I even found out recently that you even have to pay for transportation to get to restaurants outside of whatever resort you’re staying at. We know this is a once in a lifetime trip but can’t justify the extra expense for additional transportation. And to me we’re getting way more out of the trip being able to explore Moorea and not be stuck in our bungalow. Hope you find a deal

Thanks so much! We are actually thinking about taking a cheaper honeymoon right after the wedding next June, maybe Jamaica, and then going to the French Polynesia in the off-season either later that year or early the following year. The price goes down about $2000 if you go in the off season, which is significant enough for us to wait.

Our Moorea trip for 5 days including flight/ferry/car is just a little more than 5k. We are very excited to be able to visit French Polynesia within our budget! We booked through Costco Travel and they were fantastic!

I'd love to go to Bora Bora but worry it might be too expensive. Could you give a ballpark for what you paid? 3,000...5,000...8,000?

Following this discussion! I've been doing tons of research and am torn between the different hotels on Bora Bora as well as splitting time between Bora Bora and other islands to save some money AND finding the best deal with a travel agent, Costco, etc.. We are looking to spend around $10,000 for at least 7 days (I'd like to stay 10 but don't know if that's possible over there for our budget).
