How important is it to book a venue a year in advance for large weddings (250-300 guests)? We are recently engaged, but because of a number of recent events as well as long distance, we cannot go venue hunting right now. How important is it to book a venue a year in advance for large weddings (250-300 guests)? We are recently engaged, but because of a number of recent events as well as long distance, we cannot go venue hunting right now. There are still a lot of things we need to sort out with our families as well as each other, such as where and when to have the wedding, finances and funding, etc. before we can make visits.

Background: Originally we were /I was thinking of a wedding in the Chicago suburbs in late August /early September 2018 but now we are back to the drawing board.

Do you think 9 months would be okay?

Definitely start asking around ASAP. We booked our venue 14 months out and we were one of the last free Friday's at our venue. Luckily we wanted a Friday, but this stuff books like crazy. Good luck!
