Booking caterer

Mariah, on March 7, 2022 at 8:36 AM Posted in Planning 12 5

My wedding is on May 28, 2023 and I thought it would be a good time to start booking the wedding coordinator. I have contacted a few and they are already booked on my date and my wedding isn't a year out yet. With that being said besides the coordinator, the only vendor we have left to book is a caterer. I know you aren't supposed to book a caterer until about 6-8 months out, but now it is making me reconsider when I should start getting in contact with them to do tastings and such. It also makes it a little more difficult because my wedding is a destination wedding so I will have to make a trip to do that. When should I get in contact with a caterer?

You can definitely start looking and contacting caterers now. With covid a lot of vendors have been booked up due to changing dates. Especially since you have to make trips to go see them, it's probably best to get in contact with a few now and see if you can set up a day or weekend to do all of your tastings.

Agreed! The next two years are already getting booked up so the sooner the better. You can do alot of communicating by email first before making the trip. Screen them out by asking your must-have questions, reading reviews, and getting quotes. Once you married it down to a couple, you can try to schedule them all in one trip

May is one of the most popular wedding months, and will fill up quickly. I would book all your vendors as soon as possible!

Just came to echo what the other three said before me! Especially if you're finding that vendors are booked up, it will never hurt to continue reaching out and trying to secure a caterer. Sure, there might be vendors that get reschedules or cancellations, but you don't want to rely on that. 2022 and 2023 are supposed to be the busiest wedding years ever 🙈

That is way too late to be looking for caterers unless you are having a short engagement. Start seeking out independent catering companies immediately. If they do not offer tastings before you book them, run far away. This is why all inclusive venues are not always what they are cracked up to be.
