Body shaper for plunging low back dres

Ashlee, on January 14, 2018 at 7:25 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21
I recently purchased a dress from Davids Bridal that I absolutly love but I will not be able to wear any type of Spanx with it as it has a very low back. I want some tummy control and don’t know what to do. Any suggestions on where I can get something with a really low back that is seamless? Or when they do the alterations, can something be put in the dress to help? Attached is a picture (don’t mind the black Spanx I wore that day lol)

This was mentioned in a previous thread but I'm not sure if it's low enough for your dress. I think you're gonna have a tough time finding shapewear for this dress tbh, maybe they can do something during alterations but if that's satin it's not the most forgiving material.

I have a similar issue, but mine isn't satin and has boning in it. I'm not saying you need shape wear, but as others have said...satin isn't very forgiving.

What did the consultant or seamstress at David's Bridal suggest? When I went there they gave me a corset bra to try dresses in with. Now obviously it wouldn't work with your dress but my point is they provided my shapewear for trying on.

I have an illusion back for my dress, so I can't have shape wear either. I'm also not wearing sticky cups or anything like that as a bra...I'm worried they'd never stick, and they'd be way too uncomfortable. My dress is pretty much all lace.
Unfortunately, you might just have to not wear anything, but I would probably look around or, like what PPs said, ask your seamstress or consultant.

Honestly, I highly doubt there is shapewear for a back that low. If you want something to smooth out your tummy it would have to wrap all the way around and that isn’t an option for that dress. Your dress is beautiful but from the looks of the back, even underwear would show. You might want to talk with a seamstress to see what can be done.

This is a question for the bridal salon seamstress. I doubt you can find a tummy control that is backless, because how then is it to suck you in? These questions should of been asked before you bought the dress if tummy control is important to you, you may have selected the wrong dress in that regard. A corset back is the best option for those that need to be pulled in.

I'm having the same problem, my dress has a very low back. Maybe something along these lines would work? This one might be a little too high, but gives you an idea of what to look for. https://www.bhldn.com/lingerie-shapewear/hazel-thong-bodysuit/productoptionids/b8df1319-232a-4c6f-a05d-cdf74da57ed1

Also, I'm not sure what it looks like from the front, but from the back it doesn't look like you need shapewear at all!

Aw, thanks so much! I had a baby 6.5 years ago and never could get rid of the small baby pouch..so I want something to suck that in lol. I love the dress so much but recently have been thinking about that part a lot. I’m working out to hopefully make it go away so i do have 7 months before the wedding but just nervous if I can’t.

Dress twins! It looks great on you! I’m not wearing any with mine, I too would like to have something to bring in my tummy a little, but haven’t been able to find anything. I start my alterations on Feb 1, so may ask my seamstress if they know of anything. But as of now, I’m just doing a NuBra.

Oh how cool! Great taste Smiley winking
I spoke with the seamstress when I picked up my dress and she told me to go to a fabric store and buy nude stretchy mesh and they will put it in the back so that way I can wear nude seamless spanx. So I ordered the thong spanx from spanx.com. They will cover enough in the front and don’t go up super high in the back but the mesh that she’ll add will hide it! Good luck!!

Did you ever find a solution for this? My friend bought this same dress and is having the same problem. I literally only signed up to comment on your post. The dress is absolutely stunning and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did. The seamstress at David’s told me to buy nude colored stretchy mesh fabric. They lined the back with it and now I can wear seamless thong spanx with it to control my little tummy!Smiley smile

Thank you so much. If you don't mind me asking a ballpark estimate on the cost of the alteration? We had some quotes that were over the cost of the dress to begin with. I understand there are lots of factors in play but just trying to see if this is feasible. Thanks again!

I had the alterations done at David’s Bridal. They did the bustle, adjusted the straps, added cups, hemmed, and added the mesh for $335

I found most of the body shapers for full body. Few are very tight, but you can see some great and adjustable tummy based under dress slimming shaper from here prettygirlcurves.com/collections/body-shapers/. Their cost is also reasonable.

I have the exact same dress! I’ve been searching for hours for shapewear with a low back and I think I might just have to see if the seamstress can put in nude mesh like the OP suggested. That or just not wear spanx
