Body image/dress Stress

Eb, on August 18, 2022 at 12:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Hi everyone! My wedding is 5 weeks away, and I am feeling all the emotions. I had a dress that was stained by my seamstress. She got the stain out, but then the arms didn’t fit, because I had been working on my back and arms (I know, not good). She said she could add material, but she said she “wasn’t sure she could make me happy.” Suffice to say I got a partial refund and went to David’s Bridal to get a new dress that would be easy to alter - this was last week! I was heart broken, but then really liked the new dress. I was so upset by the whole experience with the seamstress that now it’s coming out in terrible body-image related stress. Any advice to stay calm over the next few weeks would be appreciated! Here is my new dress. I’m 5’2 and between a 10-12. Thanks in advance.Body image/dress Stress 1

I m sorry you had to switch dresses but your new dress is gorgeous and looks like it was made for you. You absolutely rock that dress! We are own worse critics and at least for me stress seems to make me more critical of myself. Be kind to yourself and enjoy your special day. You are a stunning bride!Smiley heart

Thanks so much for the kind words!! I really appreciate it. Stress definitely brings up old self-criticism issues for me. Over the past year and a half (starting way before we even got engaged) I’ve lost almost 40 pounds. It required a lot of patience and being kind to myself. I want to get back to that mindset pronto!!

That sounds like such a very very frustrating experience. However, I'm very proud of you for finding a solution and keeping it all moving ahead! With that said, your new dress is insanely gorgeous!!!! Like, so beautiful. It flatters your body perfectly. As if it was made for you. It's just stunning. I kinda just looked at the pictures back and forth for a while, because I love it so much.

Body image issues are a life long battle, sadly. And the sleeves situation, I definitely understand how this is causing a lot of thoughts. I know this sounds really silly - but when I'm having a bad time, I look at myself in the mirror and say (sometimes out loud) how lovely my body is. I look at each thing that might make me feel bad or insecure, and I admire it. Intentionally. If the thoughts are strong, I will legit say it out loud. So I actually hear the words. And I just keep doing that, until I can feel the internal critiques start to fade.

You look beyond lovely in your new dress! And I'm so glad that you love it. Because that dress loves you. Your fiance is going to be amazed when they see you on your wedding day.

Well congrats to you for making healthy choices and practicing self love. You are beautiful. Someone once told me to try to talk to yourself and about yourself as you would a friend. I d never be as mean to a friend as I can be to myself. Be a friend to yourself Smiley heart

Awww thank you SO much. That really means the world to me to hear. Yes, it was definitely an “all hands on deck” kind of situation. I contemplated taking the other dress to another seamstress, but regardless they would have had to track down lace that matched with 6 weeks to go. I couldn’t live with that kind of uncertainty. The sleeves made me spiral some - I had been feeling really good about myself to that point! And I’m sensitive about arms anyways.

Thank you for the suggestions ❤️ I’ve already been using the mantra “I deserve to feel relaxed and happy”, so I will add positive complements about my appearance to the process! Being a bride can fee like a lot of pressure!

I love the train too! It’s funny, because I didn’t want much of a train in the beginning and now I will have an 8 point bustle 😂

I’m so sorry that happened to you! Your new dress is absolutely gorgeous and you look beautiful in it! I think you have to remember that this day is about you and the man you love. He has seen you at your highest high and lowest lows and you guys have still decided to spend the rest of your lives together . I don’t know if it will completely take away the body anxiety but I do hope it helps

Thank you so much. That’s a very good thing to focus on when I get wrapped up in the negative stuff. We have definitely been through a lot together, and we have a lot to celebrate. ❤️
