BM gift for adult daughter that is MOH?

Kelli, on July 23, 2015 at 12:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Hello all. My daughter is 25 and my MOH. I am paying for her entire outfit - dress, jewelry, shoes. I told her to pick shoes she will actually use later. She loves high heels Smiley smile I am also buying matching "getting ready" robes for us because I thought that would be fun and something she can use later. Basically there is no expense for her in being my MOH. Except she is throwing me a bachelorette party (yeah!) and paying for my portion of everything.

What on earth do I get her for a gift? Or do I get her a gift at all? Can the shoes be the gift?

Same thing with best man. He is FH's 30 year old son. FH is paying for his suit rental. I think as a gift he is getting him a pocket knife for his pocket knife collection.

So what do you all think?

If you all say I need to get a gift Smiley smile Then I need ideas! She has already been gifted things like diamond earrings and diamond necklace for her multiple graduations (she recently graduated with her masters).

Thanks!

First of all, props to you for raising such an awesome daughter and congratulations to her on getting her masters! You mentioned that FSIL collects pocket knives. Does your daughter have any collection you could add to? If not, maybe a mother daughter spa day?

What about something more personal? I see that she has gotten jewelry in the past, but what about a Pandora bracelet (if she doesn't already have one) with a wedding or mom related bead? I love mine and DH gets me one for special moments (the week after we got engaged we took off to Florida for a week and while we were waiting for our flight he took off to grab a coffee and right next door was a Pandora store and he bought me a little engagement charm)

What about a gift card to her favorite restaurant? That's my idea of a fun night out, so my parents still will get FH and I gift cards for our birthdays. That's what we want, and that's what we'll use!

Do you have any family heirlooms that you could pass on to her? it would be something personal and it would probably mean a lot to her

Not Loubs but the shoes will probably be about $100

    No she doesn't collect anything

I have been trying to think of "keepsake" item like jewelry but maybe I need to think outside the box .. I am really liking this mother/daughter spa idea!

    Thanks for the replies ladies!

I am paying for everything for my daughter who is MOH and he's daughter is a bridesmaid. I am not getting them anything. I have paid for their dresses, all alterations, shoes, jewelry, hotel rooms, their hair to be done, arrangements for their kids to be taken care of while they get their hair done, providing food for 2 days while they are here, and giving them both the gas money to get here and to get home. They have been gifted trust me. They are good girls. Mine is in nursing school and works full-time. His is a prep cook in a 4 star restaurant. Th e y are grown women that have been given a free ride as far as my wedding goes. Gift enough.

I think since its your daughter and its a special relationship, you should get her something sentimental. A piece of jewelry, maybe a keepsake jewelry box, personalized picture frame, etc? Etsy has a lot of great ideas, it doesn't necessarily have to be expensive!

I love that idea of the mother/daughter pampered spa day! I think anything else you do above what you are already taking care of for her is just icing on the cake so to speak. I doubt she will expect a gift but if you are looking for something extra and personal you could frame a nice photo of the two of you, get a nice piece of jewelry (my mom's go to for me is Tiffany), or a GC to a store she loves or restaurant.

Also congrats to her on the masters!

@Maggie - your situation is similar to mine - I am paying for dress, alterations, shoes, jewelry, hair, and makeup. It sounds like you and FH have wonderful successful daughters!

Thanks to those who have commented on her masters degree. I am one proud mama!

I think I might peruse Etsy. A personalized picture frame with a photo of us from the wedding would be a nice post-wedding gift once we receive our pictures.

I'm thinking about a spa day with my MoH, my 19 yr old daughter. I'm also paying for her dress, and I'm getting my SiL to make us all jewelry for the wedding, which my daughter will be able to keep. I'm no buying much more than the dress, shoes and jewelry. We're doing our own hair and makeup. I'm hoping the dress we all pic for the bms will be something they'll be able to use again.

My daughters are teenagers, of course we are paying for everything. Spending the day before getting mani and pedis. I really don't think I will do any extras.

My 21 year old daughter will be here and so with his 21 year old son. We aren't having a formal wedding party but those two will definitely be doing some of the best man/ maid of honor things for us. We are getting each other's kids gifts. I think he is getting my daughter an engraved necklace or something and I decided to get his son a leather keychain thing that is engraved as well. My daughter is very sentimental so I may get her something else from me.
