Blue wedding dress - how to find?

Tina, on July 14, 2019 at 6:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
I have my heart set in a cornflower blue wedding dress (top of pic shows the color). Not a bridesmaids dress converted (usually too flimsy), but a well constructed dress Fit and flare or ball gown style. Custom made is also ok. However, I cannot find a blue dress anywhere and I don’t know how to find it or a dressmaker who can make one. Ideas? (In in the San Francisco Bay Area).

Check Etsy! You wont be able to try on, but they have wonderful dressmakers on there.

I've heard good things about custom dresses from Anomalie. Not sure if they can do the blue, I imagine they can though? They start at $1000 based on their site. So depending on your budget it may be better to find local seamstresses for some quotes.

Ieie bridal on Etsy is well received and I've seen bride's here say they had a great time with them.
You could try prom gowns but I'm not sure if you'd find the color exactly.

As PPs said, Etsy is a good place to look! I think many sellers would be happy to customize a gown just for you!

Anomalie can’t, they only do white/ivory/traditional shades.

Prom dresses would probably be your best best. Depending on the style of ballgown you want, you could try quinceanera dresses as well.

Alfred Angelo and David Tuttera for Mon Cherie have done blue wedding dresses in the past. It might be worth looking into if they are still making that color or you can at least find old stock at a bridal shop.

Thank you, someone had suggested same. I have never worked with Etsy - how would I know whether I’d like the fabric or whether the dress fits?

A lot of the sellers have fabric samples, and if it isn't listed it the shop, you can simply message them. I imagime they would be more than happy to accommodate. I'm terms of fit, it might be worth getting yourself professionally measured. If that's not doable, measure yourself several times over with a soft tape measure. Finally, make sure you go with a seller that has hundreds of reviews. Read through them. Good luck!

Since you are in San Francisco you should have no problem finding a dressmaker. I live in the Sacramento area and found my dressmaker on Yelp to make my custom silk chiffon and lace wedding dress. She recommended I purchase my fabric from Britex Fabrics which is a 4-story fabric store in the financial district in San Francisco. They have everything. I'm sure you could find your blue silk fabric there.

p.s. In fact, if you look in the 2nd picture to the left behind me, that is their wall of silk fabrics (every wall is organized by type of fabric) and I see the blue shades you referenced in your post!
