Blue Nile Damaged My Ring

Trisha, on February 17, 2021 at 9:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
Has anyone ever dealt with having to get a replacement ring from Blue Nile? I sent my engagement ring in for resizing shortly after my fiancé proposed, and they just called to let us know they damaged the ring and will have to replace it. They also said they have no idea how long it’ll take... anyone else dealt with this and have an idea of the time frame?

Oh no I'm sorry! Im having a new ring made too and its heart breaking being without my pretty engagement ring! 😭

How long did it take for FH to order then get the ring? I'd say it would be the same time frame. Also better double check they make it in the correct size!

I hate it, I feel so naked! Good point on the size, I’ll have to reach out to customer service again. He said it was about a month from order to delivery which seems like a very long time. I just hopped on their website and messed with the build your ring tool and built pretty close to my same ring and it said it’d only take 4 days to get it!

Maybe it would take 4 days because they have your busted one in stock. 😂

I did the same thing, although I'm getting a whole new ring, I went on the site and it said it won't be here until mid March. I'm hoping earlier since they were supposed to start making mine as soon as I shipped it back.

Thanks for letting me know never to send my ring to them! haha My FH got my engagement ring from Blue Nile in a little over a week and when I ordered my wedding band from them, it took 5 days max from ordering to delivery.

My thoughts are if they're giving you a brand new ring, they would just give you a new ring in the size you need, instead of resizing a ring of the original size, right? If so, it really shouldn't take that long to ship. If they do need to resize, they may need to ship the ring to wherever they do the resizing, do the resizing, then ship it to you, which would take a bit longer depending on their resizing turnaround time.

Well that’s horrible! My ring is a set of 3 so we’re taking it in next month to get it soldered. He won’t let me wear it after (says it’ll lose its meaning) so I ordered a replacement ring from metal masters. I agree with you- I feel completely naked without it !

I wanted to just pay for the resizing somewhere local so I didn’t have to deal with shipping but I was worried about voiding the warranty by letting another goldsmith mess with the ring. I’m so glad I sent it to Blue Nile because they said it was damaged during resizing because of an already-existing manufacturer defect in the ring!
I’m thinking along the same lines as you; it should be much quicker than the resize. I’ve just been discouraged by their customer support team saying they have no idea how long the replacement will take.

I’ve only had it for 2 months now but I really enjoyed those two months! Oh well, better it happened now than right before our wedding I guess!

If your diamond was GIA certified I’d recommend having it checked out by a local jeweler when you get it back. It seems unusual for them to have to remake the ring and I’ve heard horror stories of people’s diamonds getting swapped for fakes when sent back to (bluenile/Kay’s)before repair.

Thanks for the advice! I designed my band with a local jeweler (close friend of a friend) that I trust to do this inspection. I’ll rush it in when my “new” ring is returned.

I received my engagement ring from Blue Nile and it was absolutely GORGEOUS. My fiancée meticulously curated to most unique ring I could have ever imagined. It was about one size too large so after about a week and a half I sent it back to be resized. I had scheduled our engagement pictures exactly two months from our proposal date, however, the ring was not going to be back in time. We initially mailed the ring on July 15th and still have not received it.. 6 weeks later. The ship date has been changed 5 times now and I had to reschedule my engagement photos out another 3 weeks. When I spoke to customer service at Blue Nile, they said it was out of their hands and that “fingers crossed” it got here by the new estimated delivery date (September 6th). I am at my wits end and have planned nearly our entire wedding while only having my engagement ring for about 9 days total. I am very disappointed in there turnaround time when it was only supposed to be a two week process.
