Blowing bubbles during Covid? Wedding is tomorrow!

Julia, on July 25, 2020 at 6:24 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7
So we are getting married TOMORROW!!! I can’t believe the big day is almost here!!! AHHHHH!!! We have been through so many ups and downs with Covid that I am so grateful we can even have a micro wedding—or a wedding at all!

I bought a sign and individually wrapped bubbles for our 20 guests to blow at us once we say, “I do”. However, now thinking about Covid and germs, I’m wondering if that’s not a great idea 🥴
What do you think?

Ooooh that’s a good point. This is for exiting the ceremony? You could get rose petals to throw instead.

I'd probably advise against it. Not because I think there's some high transmission rate of bubbles popping and having the virus or something. I'm more thinking about people blowing to *make* the bubbles - seems like a focused push of air with a group isn't ideal.
I asked our DJ (September -VA) to not play any music that encourages vocalizing - shout, YMCA, yadda yadda for that reason.
You could still give people the bubbles as a favor, but maybe at the end and don't do as send off (if you have a similar concern).

    Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!

If you really wanted to still do the bubbles, maybe space everyone out far apart (or just have the wedding party blow the bubbles, spaced far apart, and everyone else wearing masks)? Or, can you instruct everyone not to blow the bubbles, but to wave the bubble wand instead? I'm not sure how well that last idea would work out, but may be worth a try.
Otherwise, I agree with previous comments that maybe an alternative idea is safer.

Waving the bubble wands is a really good idea! I love the look of bubbles in pictures, but I don't like the idea of people blowing on/near each other.

So the thing is, 6 feet isn't a magical number. Experts really just came up with a plausible distance. And that's a distance experts recommend around people who are just talking. If they're actually blowing bubbles, that would be a much larger distance because aeresolized droplets would have a very specific trajectory. I'd recommend just waving it or not doing it at all.

Congrats! I would highly advise NOT to have anyone blow bubbles though..Everything Julie above me just said. Way too risky

I think it’s ok to still give out as little favors but I don’t think I’d use it either now unless it works when waved instead of blown into?
