Bloominous for flowers?

FutureMrs.G, on November 14, 2015 at 7:18 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

After looking at florists, we've pretty much determined we'll have to do DIY flowers for the wedding. We simply cannot afford a florist (and I even thought our flower budget was generous...). I've narrowed it down to fiftyflowers.com and bloominous.com. I've done wedding flowers before and my aunt and her best friend have generously jumped head-first into the whole thing and said they would do it all (they've done flowers for several weddings too) so I know I'm in good hands). The thought of having to pick and choose and decide how much of everything we need is a bit overwhelming. Then I came across bloominous and they seem awesome. I wanted to see if there were other brides who had used them and how their experiences were. I've already gotten a custom quote to tweak one of their pre-made designs. With all of the materials and vases they supply, it would be about the same as if I were to use fiftyflowers. Any suggestions/recommendations?

Never heard of this site, but it looks really neat.

I am bulk ordering flowers from Costco. Not the most classy...but live flowers are live flowers and I've seen other weddings with Costco flowers. Could be used as a supplement if you need it.

I had the same exact issue because I am getting married right before Valentine's Day. I am also using Costco and then I'm also doing potted herbs/trees/succulence. I haven't heard of the Bloomington website but j checked it out and they have some pretty collections!

I have had a friend who had a great experience with fiftyflowers for her winter wedding but she is the only person I know who has used them. I have never heard of Bloominous but it does look pretty neat! I will be following this because I too am having difficulty with choosing how many types, stems, colors, etc.

I'm assuming "Bloominous" is a competitor of "Fifty Flowers". Fifty Flowers I've heard of, but I've never heard of Bloominous. It doesn't really matter -- there are more of these alleged "wholesalers" showing up every year.

Neither of the companies mentioned are permitted to offer raw floral stems to brides at true "wholesale" prices. That's BS, and I can't stand the fact that they are able to get away with such blatant false advertisements. Their mark-ups are considerable, especially when they are compared to what honest florists are charged at wholesale rates.

They are charging brides a sale price on retail, if that. The only individuals who can buy flowers at true wholesale prices are those who have Federal Tax ID numbers, and those numbers mean that we have to report our sales to our federal and state governments (that's why we have to charge our customers tax -- because we have to pay the tax on our brides' orders to our state and federal governments). If you have a real Tax ID number, you're not bothering with Fifty Flowers and their peers (and you can ignore what they say on their posts on the wedding forums).

One day, I'll have enough time to figure out how these companies are allowed to advertise "wholesale" prices to women who don't have Tax ID numbers related to a floral business, but for now, let me tell you, you aren't saving a shit load of money by buying into their wholesale nonsense. Actually, I laugh at what they supposedly sell brides at wholesale prices. Most florists could buy true wholesale flowers and do professional arrangements for a little more than what Fifty Flowers charges their customers for receiving boxes of "sleepy" raw stems in a box (stems that need to be prepped, stored, arranged, and delivered). Honestly, most brides have no idea what kind of relationships professional florists have with their wholesalers.

I know floral packages are expensive. That's just the way it is. Go to a grocery store florist if you can't afford a private florist. They'll do a nice job (as long as you are fine with a color scheme as opposed to custom pieces. Face it...whether it's a car or a centerpiece, you get what you can pay for when it comes to a customized product). The two retailers (yes, retailers -- and I say that because I know what they charge and what I pay to a genuine wholesaler who requires my business Tax ID#) mentioned are six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Go to the floral department in your local grocer and send a message to retailers waving the "wholesaler" badge. There are designers who know the general basics of design in those grocery stores, and their cost is far less than a custom designer or artist. Just remember, you will not get the attention, communication, or concern that a private florist will offer you. However, you'll get good enough.

Bloominous is not quite a "wholesale retailer" like fiftyflowers.com bills itself to be. Bloominous is supposed to be like having your own off-site florist ship everything in neatly organized sets and packages with instructions on how to assemble everything. I'd be more inclined to go to a grocery florist if my family and I didn't have any experience doing wedding flowers, but we've each done at least a few weddings before, so we have a pretty good idea of what we're getting into and we can really personalize it and I trust everyone involved. (Even if I am spending more than an actual florist would on the materials through either of these websites) I am saving a lot of money in the end - at least 50% off of the quotes I've gotten from various florists. These florists do excellent work, so I'm not knocking their prices; I just cannot afford what they're charging. Bouquets alone from these florists are above my budget! I was going to settle for non-floral centerpieces, but realized I couldn't even do that once they told me the prices (and I was choosing in-season flowers and simplifying everything to make it as budget-friendly as possible). Bloominous is closer to online retailers like Costco and Sam's Club where you can purchase "sets" and they ship them to you. Bloominous just fit my personal taste better and I liked that they included everything from pins to ribbons and vases in the package price for a fraction of what florists were charging me for similar sets. I was just curious to see if there were other brides who had used this company and how their experiences were.

I appreciate your input and insight, Centerpiece.

They look really cool OP! I was considering doing something similar as I also have a limited floral budget. I'd just rather spend that money on another aspect of my wedding, so I planned to do semi-diy. I actually considered going with one of my favorite online florists (the bouqs) and seeing what type of pricing discount j could get for ordering everything but my bouquet from them. This company seems great too! Now maybe I have an extra option. Unfortunately I haven't met any other brides that have used them, so no report there. Also, I agree that they aren't really a wholesaler. I'm lucky to have a great planner that recommended I use her wholesale floral warehouse but I'm overwhelmed by making all those decisions!! I like that this place gives you a plan (including vases) so you don't have to think about it!!

I'm using Bloominous for my upcoming wedding in May of 2016! Every correspondence I've had with Richard, who is handling our flowers, so far has been absolutely wonderful! He was able to discuss what I wanted, offer suggestions, and create a completely customized package for me. So cool that you're not limited to the packages they have available!

My friend did her flowers from Costco, and she said it was really difficult and time consuming. I loved that with bloominous there are videos, and you know how many flowers to put in each arrangement.

When it came time for my bridal boudoir shoot, I ordered a sample package of the bohemian collection to get a feel for flower quality, the ease of putting them together, and the delivery process, as well as for my boudoir bridal bouquet. It was extremely easy to put the flowers together, and they were absolutely beautiful! After my wedding, I'd be happy to share the entire experience!

Here are what the sample bridal bouquet and centerpiece looked like:
