Blocking off hotel rooms, is it necessary?

Alexis, on March 22, 2018 at 1:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
I am having my wedding around the Charleston WV area. Most of my family lives near there so is it necessary to reserve rooms when people might not even stay in them??

I would do a small hotel block for anyone who is traveling. Plus, even if people live in the area, sometimes they still want to do a hotel room just for fun. We have a bunch of local people that are still going to get a hotel room for the experience. So, yes, I would.

Yes I would do a small one. Most places don’t charge and there’s Commitment so I don’t see why not just in case and to give that option to guest.

Make sure you get a courtesy block so you won't be responsible for any unbooked rooms.

Agreed! If you have a Marriott near the venue they are great with this! I ended up courtesy booking a block of 10 rooms. Many hotels also give you perks. So in my case, all those who book in the block get 50% off parking, if more than 7 rooms get booked, we get a studio suite for free and if all 10 get booked we get extra in room perks (champagne, strawberries, etc). It's worth checking out, just reiterate with the hotel that you do not want to be responsible for unbooked rooms - this means they will typically release the rooms to general public a month before the wedding.

I am getting married in Doddridge, WV and I am not blocking rooms for my wedding all of our family live in Harrison County which is one county away from Doddridge County so I think by blocking rooms is just a waster and their isn’t really no hotels near our venue expect almost 40 mins away.

My rule for myself was block rooms so long as A. It doesn't cost me anything B. They actually give a decent discount. The hotel we ended up blocking with also has a good relationship with our reception venue so we get the shuttle free so long as so many rooms book, if not it's an extra $150. Another hotel I talked to was $400 for the shuttle if all the rooms didn't book so I was happy with what we ended up with.
