Advise please! Most of our wedding guests will be needing to get hotel rooms after our wedding due to it being a 2 hour drive back home. We were checking out hotels in the area and the nice hotels are running $250 a night. There are less expensive options $150 per night, in another not as nice part of town. We are providing transportation from one hotel to and from venue. Is that way to much to ask guests to spring for a room.
Everyone has a different threshold for what they feel is expensive. Our venue is at a resort which our discounted rate is $250.00 per night but I provided alternatives within 5-10 mins away which are $125-$150 per night. Most people picked the less expensive routes. I thought it was a steal however clearly most did not.
I also think most of my guests would choose the less expensive hotel. I guess I was hoping to have most in the same hotel as me to have people around..
We had our wedding at a hotel on the beach and the rooms were $269/night. I realize that isn’t cheap so I gave people other options in the area, but everyone except one couple ended up staying at the hotel because they wanted to be where everyone else was. I think it’s good to give options though.
To be honest, I probably wouldn't spend $250 for a hotel room in order to attend a wedding. That is not a reasonable price for my budget. But that can also depend on the area you are getting married and your guest's financial situations. I don't think I could ask guests to pay that much for a hotel, without at least giving cheaper options. So, I would make a hotel block at a couple of different hotels with different price points.
We have blocks at three different hotels, mainly because we couldn't get all the rooms in one hotel. But each hotel has a different price point. You could do a portion at both hotels to give people the option.

$150 is even a lot to me. If you can do curtosey blocks in two hotels that would be good
My venue has a hotel attached so they will explain to me when I need to talk to someone about it. My thing is I hope they have enough rooms to block off. I have a lot of out of town guests.
I would book two blocks, so guests can pick for themselves! We had two blocks, one at $119 per night and one at $80 per night. Our transportation went to and from the main block, so if people didn't stay in that block they just had to meet at the hotel prior!
My advice to you is to speak to someone at your venue so they can go ahead and let you know which hotels they use nearby that’s what we did and we had a pretty good discount due to the fact that we were recommended by the venue.
