Blank Placecards?

brieliz, on June 29, 2016 at 12:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

So my venue contract included place cards, and I thought it was they would print the place cards but yesterday she gave me a stack of blank place cards for me to I guess write on? This ever happen to anyone? Should I hand-write them myself, or should I just order from online? Don't want them looking horrible. Any creative ideas so they don't turn out bad?

Will they fit in your printer?

Do you know anyone with really good handwriting? Or can you print them from your home computer?

We took the easy way out and printed them on labels and then put them on favor boxes as escort cards.

If you don't want to write on them yourself, I would recommend Vistaprint, as they are extremely affordable. Sorry that's a bummer though that they only gave you blank ones!

@s&p I have a printer but they are already pre-cut to size (not a full page) so I'm worried about figuring out centering, etc...

We handwrote ours. It made it easier to correct last minute changes or mistakes.

What if you got the clear sticker labels on amazon for envelopes and printed names in a pretty font onto those then stuck those onto the placecards?

    Order online.

Buy Avery tent cards off amazon. Then they have a great free site where you can design your own. $12 for 160

@brieliz I don't know about your printer, but in the paper tray of mine I have things that I can slide to fit it to the size of the paper I put in there so it doesn't print off center or crooked. I have no idea what they're called, but if your printer has the things that slide to adjust the paper size you might be able to print directly on them.Do you know what size the unfolded place cards are? I test printed my reply cards which are about 3 x 5 the other day and they fit just fine. The ones I was looking at online for us were 3 x 5 too.

@S&P I will have to check it out, I've never looked to see if I can do that. It was a free printer when I bought my laptop so not the fanciest lol

If you really want to do it the hard way, I recommend this tip to everyone: print the text out on your computer, and cover the back of the paper with a colored chalk or pastel crayon. Then place the paper on top of your item, and with a pencil or pen, lightly trace over the front of the words, and when you peel away the paper you can see the outline that you can then cover over with thicker marker or whatever.

That's how people can "handwrite" gorgeous seating charts on mirrors, wood, etc. But in your case I'd just get a $6 set of Wilton placecards from Amazon like I did, and feed them through your printer.

I don't know what standard procedure is (this could be what everybody does), but at couple of weddings I've been to, the placecards were at the entrance for people to pick up when they came in, so nobody had to wander around and find their seat by card. They were just assigned a table number (on a list beside the cards, conveniently in alphabetical order) and they could sit where they wanted to.

Depending on how *fun* your guests are, you could have some pretty pens or markers in your wedding colors next to the placecards at the door and let people customize their own?

That is strange. You would think that if they wanted you print/write them yourselves they would at least give a template for your computer so that you can print them. I feel like it is kind of shady that they tell you that they provide place cards but do not specify that it is only the blank cards....

Do the cards have a brand and number on them? As in "Avery xxx?" If so, you can download the template easy peasy and print.

@AMW that sounds interesting! I will have to try it.

@JessZ - it is a more formal wedding and I need to have the meal selections on the inside of each individual card that everyone preselected

@dsta0125 - I'm thinking they assumed I would hire a calligrapher? It is a fancier place

@tina bobina - nope they are pre cut, plain paper

    Thanks everyone for your ideas!

Brie, can you please tell me the size of the individual card and how many to a page? Is it a heavier card stock?

I've been practicing calligraphy and am going to handwrite ours. It's been so fun to learn and I know they'll look good at the end.

Tina I think they're already precut, so she's just got a stack. Probably too small to fit into even a home printer at that point :/

@tina bobina don't have them at work so will have to update later. it is heavier card stock

@amw yes it is a stack already precut so I don't think they will fit through the printer

Oh I see, not pages of them. I used Avery business card stock and it was a breeze.

Another option would be to print fancy fonted names on clear labels and then stick them on.

Sorry, that's all I can come up with!
