Black/white vs. black/ ivory

Teresa, on October 12, 2017 at 5:27 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Hello fellow brides! So I had my favorite colors black and white all picked out for my wedding. .easy peasy right!? And then I bought an IVORY dress! I am very happy with the dress but it only came in ivory, it's very light and I think in certain lighting it looks white. But my dilemma is I am a very matchy person, so I'm debating if I should change my colors to black and ivory? Or just stick with my original plan and be different in my ivory dress? I love both colors but I feel like ivory things might be difficult to find. HELP!! I'm driving myself crazy lol. I've attached a pic of my dress.

Keep black & white. The dress seems close enough to white

Ivory and white are pretty close so I don't think it would be a problem to mix them, but if that's going to bother you then I would just pick 1. I do think there is absolutely nothing wrong with your dress being ivory and everything else being stark white. Your dress should stand out anyways (beautiful dress btw). Also, my wedding venue offered us ivory tablecloths and chair covers so I don't think it would be hard to find ivory over white. Even our guys are wearing ivory shirts instead of white.

Thanks Jaci, yeah my venue does offer ivory linens but I don't know, I think I'm just over thinking everything lol. I had my mind originally set on black and white so the ivory threw me off. Are your colors black and ivory?

We are doing black and gold actually. Sort of similar situation, as my dress is champagne so I was considering switching from gold to champagne but FH wanted these colors so we are sticking with the gold. But I am okay with maybe some champagne colors mixing in, if it looks good together. We will see when we start making the centerpieces.

My colors were black and white, and my dress was ivory. It ended up looking really cool actually; it made my dress pop. Plus if you do ivory, you have to find things that are the same shade of ivory...harder to do than with white. I'd say keep it black and white.

Keep it black and white, it's unlikely anyone would notice that your dress isn't perfectly matched

You can do ivory linens if they offer it. What else would have been white? Things like table numbers, signs, etc. can all still be black and white.

The lighting will probably be a little dark in the room so no one will notice.

Jaci- I think those 3 colors would be very elegant. Thanks for the advice!

I see no reason for you to change plans. The bride is not part of the decor. Besides that, there are so many shades of ivory. The undertone can be brown but often unfortunately is yellow.

If the groom is wearing a tuxedo, he should wear a white shirt. Too many tuxedo rental places give bad advice and suggest ivory, but they are wrong. His white shirt will look proper on him and it will NOT make your dress look dingy, if that concerns you. It won't be till later in the evening when he takes his jacket off that his shirt will ever be next to your dress anyhow.

Muriel that is exactly what my worry was with the shades of ivory. Thanks everyone for the feedback, I'm feeling more confident in sticking with black and white now. And I can stop driving my fiance crazy about it lol.

I'm in your situation as well. We actually have black linens and are using white as the flower/napkins/plate color. Just a suggestion if you're concerned your dress won't compliment the white.

@kate that's a good idea too, thank you! My venue offers black linens as well.
