Black Veil?

Emily, on December 3, 2019 at 9:53 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 10

I have an ivory lace mermaid dress that I really adore. I would like to have a fingertip veil with a similar lace and I just can't find it so I've decided I'd just make my own and have exactly what I want. Just another reason for me to get creative! As a little girl, I'd always thought about getting married in a black dress, well that didn't happen because my mom put her foot down on that one haha, but I thought if I'm making my veil anyways, why not have a black veil instead of a black dress? Has anyone done this? Pictures would be great if you have because all I can find is black veil with a black dress, not a white one. I could do an ivory veil with black lace around it for an embellishment...

Has anyone made their veil before or have advice for me? Thank you!

I say go for the black veil! I've never seen it before but it sounds gorgeous, plus it's something you want.

Pinterest has lots of photos with a white dress and black veil. Here’s a couple I found:

    Hey Emily!

I love this idea! I think a black veil would look absolutely amazing, and it definitely sounds like it would suit your personality!

Have you ever made a veil before?

Nope, never made a veil before but I have a little sewing experience and my mom made her entire wedding dress and veil so I think between the two of us it shouldn't be THAT hard. She absolutely hates the idea of me in a black veil or any black on me when I told her what I wanted. I just don't want it to be so out of place with my ivory and peach dress.

Personally, I think it will look amazing!

Have you checked out Pinterest for some examples of what it could look like?

I have but besides 1 or 2 things I'm not finding much. I might be searching the wrong thing... everything I'm finding is a black and white dress. I'm planning on going to the store this weekend and seeing if I can find a lace I like..

That's a great idea! Have you thought about what style of veil you would like to wear?

I'm wearing the Rebecca Ingram's Zelda dress, it doesn't have a very long train so I was thinking I'd wear a fingertip length veil in ivory with the black trim around the edges. I just want something that matches the style of lace with the sequined crosshatching that drew me to the dress to begin with. It's a pretty warm colored dress though and I'm worried that if I find something too cool a color black it's going to look out of place. I found a beautiful dark grey lace that would have been perfect on Etsy but it's almost blue looking... that wouldn't work at all.

WOW your dress is beautiful! I totally know what you mean about not wanting the tone of your veil to be too cool. Have you gotten your dress yet?

Yep. I took it home the day I found it for a 40% off sample sale! Best deal ever! Less than 500 dollars. It's currently sitting at my mom's house waiting until a closer day for alterations. Some of the beading needs to be tacked back on since it was a sample. I just don't want to go through all the trouble of having this great idea and making my veil only to put it with my dress and it clash completely. I keep thinking I'll find some pictures of a black lace that screams at me like the lace on my dress did.
