Black suits, cognac shoes

Ciera, on August 22, 2020 at 1:02 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13

So we went to get my fh fitted yesterday at the black tux, and the sales person was like “absolutely do not put brown shoes with a black suit, don’t go based off Pinterest ideas, ppl will see the photos and be like what are they wearing. Is this true? Like I have no problem doing black shoes(which he then proceeded to show me a matte black shoe with a brown heel, photo below).

We had in mind to do the set up below cognac shoes and cognac belt. My dress is ivory and my gals are in dusty rose with MOH/MOB are in Cabernet. Wedding is in November.

As long as they look like they belong together, do what you want. The wedding industry has specific "rules" of how a wedding should be/look or else it won't be valid in their minds and convince everyone of the same. Your guests won't notice or care unless something is blatantly mismatched or out of place.

That definitely makes sense especially since they are in the business all day everyday. The photo below is basically how they would all be. My fh will have a burgundy tie as well the only difference it as white outlined florals on it

I think the cognac shoes and belts look great! I think a lot of these tux rental shops are still going off old traditions. If you and FH like the way the cognac looks, go for it!

I personally don’t mind mixing black and brown, however, it does give it a more casual look. Just depends how formal you are looking to go!

I agree with this -- it's mostly a matter of personal preference, but if you're going for a more formal look black shoes & belts with a black suit will better convey that. If you're going for a more casual/modern look, and like the brown, then it works fine.

I think black suits and brown shoes looks more business professional, and all black would be more evening. Just depends on how formal you want to be. Either way works

If you and your FH love it, go for it! Sartorially, I think you’re either toeing the line here or in fashion faux pas territory. With black suiting (weddings and otherwise) black shoes are traditional or the brown/cognac shoe and belt should be pretty dark. Are your groomsmen renting or buying the shoes? If buying, will they wear this shoe again? If your guys are confident in this look and your wedding is a bit informal, I think it could work. Personally I prefer black suit, black shoe. If your FH is trying to do something different, there a lot of different style of black shoe he can wear to mix it up more subtly.

Lol I was just looking at that post! The wedding is definitely not super formal and more modern. We are getting their outfits from the black tux so you their suits, shirt, and shoes and belt will be all from there. You actually have the option to rent or buy the entire look, or buy the suit and rent the shirt/shoes/belt. I honestly feel all black would be more dark than black and brown 🤷🏾‍♀️. They would basically be what is in the exact photo as I put that together, the only difference is my FH tie which is the same color as their has white outlines florals

It really does🥰 I decided to stick with my brown and black faux pas and all 😂. Our wedding is modern(vintage/elegant/ romantic, girl idk but modern forsure. Lol shoot if Michael b Jordan, zac efron, and David Beckham can rock black with brown, so can my groom and his guys 😌
