Black Dress...bridal dress or Prom dress??

Linsay, on November 11, 2019 at 8:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
Hey ladies!! I want your opinion on black dresses. Our wedding is not your traditional wedding and i would loveeeee to wear a black dress. But i can't see to find any bridal stores in Delaware that carry black wedding dresses. Would looking at black prom dresses be tacky??

I knew I wanted to go non-traditional and I actually looked at some prom dresses but unfortunately they were not nearly as high quality as the bridal gown I ended up finding. I’m in Philly, so I just checked out a bunch of boutiques; I was going to try DE next so I think you’d have a decent shot of finding something. There’s also the Cherry Hill area in NJ which is packed with bridal shops.

I was in the same boat. As PP said, the prom/special occasion dresses I tried on were not even close to the quality of a bridal gown. If you have a vision of what you want in your mind, I would highly suggest Anomalie. They can create a custom dress for you in black

Heck yes to a black wedding dress! Call up bridal shops to see if any dress they carry cones in black. A shop that sells prom dresses might work too. Show us what you find.

Black dresses have become more common in bridal gowns. I would look at Vera Wang, Lozaro, Enzoani. These designers have black wedding dresses. My dress is by Enzoani and its black.

Plus it’s the holiday season coming up so all the boutiques I see (at least here in Philly) are carrying black evening gowns. Like, a lot.

If you’re going to Cherry Hill, check out Jan’s Boutique! They have an enormous collection of prom, evening gowns, and bridal gowns. I’ve used them multiple times for proms and formals. I was going to go there but I stumbled across my dress elsewhere.

My dress, which is a Vera Wang that I got at David's Bridal comes in black, so they're definitely out there.

You could also try looking on etsy, there is a greater element of risk there, as the stores are independently run, but they have a large selection of black wedding dresses.

There's also the possibility of having a dress specially made for you, find a seamstress who specializes in making wedding dresses and pick the fabric and style you want. It might be a bit more costly, but you get the dress that you want which might be hard to find. You could check out Anomalie, which is a custom wedding dress site where you provide your inspiration and create the dress that you want and they make it for you. I haven't tried it myself, but I've seen people who have had success going through them.

I think a black prom dress wouldn't be tacky at all. I'm a bride who bought a formal gown that wasn't a bridal or wedding one but I used it as my wedding gown

Nothing wrong with that if you like what you're looking at. I almost ended up with a prom dress!
