Birdcage veils

ychodgson, on March 25, 2009 at 3:20 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

I am thinking about wearing a birdcage veil, but I'm confused on the typical church etiquette. Do I let my dad flip it back before I approach the alter, or do I leave it forward until after the ceremony?

I'm pretty sure it's just a preference thing. I've seen it done both ways.

There are no formal church rules anymore about when the veil should be lifted. Traditionally, the veil should be lifted after the ceremony, right after the officiant says, "You may kiss the bride." Some brides have their fathers unveil them at the alter, as they're giving them away. It really depends on whether or not you mind having the veil in front of you during the ceremony. I like the idea of a father lifting it at the alter just for the giving away kiss, then replacing it so that the groom can fully unveil you after you're pronounced man and wife! Unveil and then smooch. Yah, I like that. I hope this helps.

OK. Thank you. I really like the idea of that, too. Now, it's just a matter of whether or not my dad understands it correctly.
