Birdcage Veil

Summerfield Bride, on January 5, 2015 at 2:09 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Hi Ladies...starting to have a major freak out session since 2015 has hit.. only 4 mos left to go before the big day! I had some questions about the birdcage veil. Is there a standard size? I saw something online about it being 9 inches but wanted to get everyones opinions on what they thought the best size is. Also, do you keep it on during the whole ceremony or adjust it at all? I know with a regular veil you lift it so I am just trying to figure out exactly how it all works. Happy New Year!!

Birdcage veil size depends on where on your face you'd like the bottom of it to fall. 9 inches usually falls around the cheekbones right under the eye. longer lengths will bring the veil to the chin. if the birdcage is attached to a fascinator or small hat, the veil can be lifted and folded right over it and look beautiful without you having to remove it

I'm a huge fan and ever since I can remember, I've wanted a birdcage. I bought a 9-incher because I want to wear it at an angle with one eye mostly covered, fastened behind my ear. Here's a pic of it during my trial. I'll probably only wear it during the ceremony and I might even switch up my fastener when I remove it.

The shape is a little funky because it got squashed during shipping (totally normal). I've since found out that if you shape the birdcage around a little bowl and put a blow dryer on it, it comes back to life pretty nicely.

Barbara posted something about Twigs and Honey earlier today and they have some pretty great pictures and options: http://www.twigsandhoney.com/collections/veils/birdcage-veils. Good luck on your search, and keep us posted on what you end up with!

I don't know what size mine was, but I wanted mine to be tulle. I only wore it for the ceremony and my pictures, it came off for my reception and I just kept in my hair Clip. I'm on my phone so I can't post more than one pic at a time but you'll get the idea.
