Birdcage veil with a ballgown?

AQuixoticBride, on March 30, 2018 at 7:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

So ever since I decided to have a wedding with a dress and all that, I wanted a birdcage veil if I wore a veil at all. Originally, I wanted a tea length dress, but FH thought a long dress would be more flattering (he was totally right), I was looking for a simple sheath or a-line dress, but ended up with this ballgownish ruffly one. Pic included hopefully, obviously a model and not me. I really don't want a long veil, Would a birdcage just look dumb? Or should I just get a sparkly hairpiece and call it a day?

I would at least do a fingertip veil. It really adds to the overall look

I would do a longer veil like a fingertip or a sparkly hairpiece if you don't want a longer veil.

Maybe order a cheap one off Amazon to try & see if you like it? I think it will look odd but you never know unless you try!

I can't picture a birdcage veil with your dress. I would either do fingertip length or just a hair piece.

I agree with pp. I would do finger tip veil or sparkly headpiece. But I do think the veil gives the bridal look

In my opinion, fingertip veil=long veil.

Honestly, if birdcage is what you want, you should try it and see if you like it. Most bridal salons should have some pieces in shop so you can see what they look like. I think it would be unique, but that doesn't mean unflattering, just that not many women would. I think a birdcage could be really nice!

I also agree with a fingertip, but you never know. Try a birdcage at the salon & see if

Wear the birdcage veil for the reception and a fingertip one for the ceremony.

I think if you want a birdcage, try one on when the dress comes in and see if you like it. I think it could work!

I'm not a particular good judge of what other people think look good. That's why I'm asking - haha! I do already have the dress. I don't want to schlep it around to shop for a veil. I think the advice to get an inexpensive one somewhere is good. Thanks! Maybe then I can even return it if I need to. Perhaps there's some other type veil I'm not thinking of that might be better?

I order a cheap one for my dress and I hated it so I ended up buying a veil instead

I think a birdcage veil would look great! It would balance the traditional look of the dress.

Personally i love a birdcage veil--in your case it would create a different look for your dress which i love! i wore a birdcage-ish veil made by a family friend--my dress wasn't quite as traditional as yours but i still really liked the overall effect.

I like birdcage veils. Your dress has the potential to look either sweet and princessy or more edgy and sophisticated because of the skirt. I think a birdcage veil would give it a more edgy, sophisticated look.

FSIL had a big dress and a birdcage veil. Do whatever you’d like.

Thanks for the picture! I haven't had much luck finding pics where the person's not sitting down so I can see the whole outfit.
