I have always wanted to wear a birdcage veil (below are the ones I'm looking at). We're getting married in a Catholic church and my mom says it's "Catholic etiquette" to have the face covered until the father gives you away. I just thought it was tradition but didn't realize it was "proper" or that's what is "supposed" to happen. She says the birdcage is fine but should be able to somehow be "flipped up" when my dad gives me away. From what I've read, if the veil covers just eyes and nose, it's worn through the whole ceremony down. I imagine a weird viser look if it was "flipped." But is it weird to wear the veil through the whole ceremony? My parents say I should email the priest to ask him if it's okay that I wear it, and if it's okay that the birdcage doesn't actually cover my face. To me, it seems like a petty fashion question to email a priest about, and honestly, I don't want him to tell me it's not appropriate. Regular veils make me feel like a nun! Any input?
