Bilingual wedding — i want to know your plans

Lizandra, on August 22, 2022 at 11:18 AM Posted in Planning 0 2
Happy Monday!

My fiancé is British and I am Cuban. My mother speaks not a lick of English and his family speaks no Spanish. We are having a bilingual ceremony and mixing Hispanic music and all the English-language music you would hear at any other wedding.
I want to know how you’re incorporating your culture and your fiancé’s into your big day.

My MIL is Puerto Rican but her side of the family mostly speak English so we did not have to have a fully bilingual ceremony. The only person who spoke no English was my husband's grandmother and my MIL translated for her. We included some Hispanic music in our reception as well. My wedding veil was a manilla veil, which was a nod to my husband's Catholic upbringing. We had a non-religious ceremony but my husband's mother and grandmother both told me they were happy to see that we kept some traditional elements. The only other big thing was that we served Puerto Rican coffee and also had a good selection of rum at the bar.

I love all this, but I especially love the incorporation of his upbringing in your veil. I’m leaning very heavily on my fiancé’s culture for our ceremony — including a hand fasting.
