big vow renewal ceremony?

Brenda, on January 14, 2013 at 7:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

My husband and I got married last year, and are kind of regretting how we did it. We just had a very small ceremony at his grandparents' place. We were originally planning on having a big wedding, but gave up on that dream thinking that we wouldn't be able to pull it off. I also thought that he didn't like the idea... so I agreed to the small one. Unfortunately most of my family wasn't there for it. Now we are looking at having the bigger wedding we want, but as a vow renewal for our 10 year anniversary. Does it sound like a good idea or would it be tacky? Please help... need advice

That is certainly not tacky! Many brides on WW do vow renewals, especially when their wedding wasn't quite what they wanted. Doing a big vow renewal for your anniversary sounds like a great idea. Smiley smile

Not at all! I've seen lots of girls on here talking about doing something like this. My DH and I are talking about it as well, more because we are big saps than anything and we love the idea of re-committing to each other in ten years. We even know what we want for a venue, lol, though if we get what we want we'd be doing the renewal in September or October instead of July. There is a theater here (Actors Theater of Louisville, just found out it actually the state theater) that has been doing a production of Dracula for 55 years as of this fall. It's done theater in the round, the sets are gorgeous, and we know people who work there. We also met a couple who got married on the set. Since seeing it is going to become a yearly thing for us, and we love classic lit and all things Halloween, it would be perfect.

In short, I'd say go for it! And hey, ten years is plenty of time to save up for the big wedding of your dreams!

Oh, and one little favor to ask. If you plan to stick around (we love wedding pics, if you want to share), could you change your avatar to something we can recognize? It lets us get to know the new people, since it's tough to keep up with all the names.

It's not tacky at all. But I wonder how practical it is. In 10 years, you may have kids' college tuition to save for, you may have a mortgage, and if any of these things transpire, your family will certainly get to take part in major events in your life and celebrate with you. You're married, you love each other-- I would work toward having a better future instead of patching up regrets about a wedding ceremony that happened 10 years ago. After all, a wedding is just one day. I might have a great 10th anniversary party if anything, because I'm kind of over this weird obsession with having a perfect wedding day. But you need to decide what's best for you and your husband and your family in 10 years!

We have a 3 month old daughter now, amd plan on having at least one more. I would do most of it myself (decorations and invitations) and was thinking of getting the small things together as time goes by.
