big gown...how to bustle??

Overthemoon, on June 6, 2017 at 12:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Help! I have a huge train, lots of pick ups already. I need to bustle because it's heavy and I can't do the wrist loop. I have no good idea what can be done because of all of the pick ups, I don't want it looking unbalanced. Suggestions??

Omg. I LOVE your dress. Are you staying with red???

A good seamstress will be able to figure it out and give you options

I don't have an answer to your question but I just wanted to say I love your dress, what a gorgeous color and design!

Helena: Yes! I am staying with the red, but instead of silver embroidery, I went with Champaign. I'm going to attempt the bustle myself, as I'm quite a handy seamstress. I just am unsure of how to best lay the fabric.

Meaghan: Thank you!! We're doing a masked ball so the red was perfect.

There is a bustle that is specifically for pickups, but I don't know what they call it

OP I really recommend getting a professional, even if it's just to bustle. They're going to have more experience doing dresses like these.

My other advice is just to play with it. Use pins and move it around as needed. I had a 9 point bustle, so keep in mind you'll need more than one bustle.

@Bemyguest I actually work at the Renfest and make most of my own gowns. I'm just unsure of how to style this. I'm not opposed to getting it done, but it's more like a personal challenge because I'm always dealing with challenges on big gowns. ...Just not gowns from this century lol. Elizabethan gowns don't have bustles Smiley smile

I definitely suggest talking to a seamstress about this. Best to get a professional opinion on it so that you don't look "unbalanced" as you mentioned.
