Big duplicate presents with no gift receipts...

Amy, on January 1, 2018 at 2:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
We got a lot of duplicates, but the biggest one was a whole pots and pans set that I didn’t ask for....I already got the one I did ask for a couple months ago. No gift receipt, no hint of where it came from. What am I supposed to do? Try to sell it? Regifting it?

I would ... keep it... or save it for a Christmas gift. Or maybe sell it on a website online that family members don't check .. so no drama happens

Hmmm, that's frustrating. Did you check inside the box? Maybe there is information inside about where they came from (or warranty info). I also know some people put the gift receipt in there so it doesn't get lost.

Are you able to google the name of the set and see if it is sold exclusively at one store? Maybe take it back there and try and get some store credit. Or did you register somewhere that sells these pots? Maybe they will let you return them and use the money towards completing your registry.

Unfortunately, there is probably not much else you can do besides trying to sell them.

I’d google the brand/set to see which stores carry it. Usually you can return an item without a receipt, but be prepared that they might only give you the lowest selling price as store credit.

Google the brand to see where it sells. Many stores will give you a store credit if they won't refund the purchase without a receipt.

I agree with all PP, also try to see if there is a gift receipt taped to the inside lid or the bottom of the box? Maybe it was inside the box and slipped down? Just thinking of other possibilities Smiley smile

I'm in a similar-ish situation. I'm not registered but I recently received champagne flutes in the mail with no gift receipt and no name. So I don't know who gave it and I can't return it. There's a company name on the box it came in that I plan to call during normal business hours to see if I can't at least get the name of the person and send them a thank you card. Unfortunately the brand is sold in several stores and online so it doesn't narrow it down any.

We had a situation like this (someone bought off registry but something similar to our registry item..... while someone else bought the actual registry item). I am probably going to try to return it for store credit somewhere, but honestly I have been too busy to deal with it so it may end up being regifted or just going to goodwill.

Bed Bath and Beyond was SO helpful to me when I got a large off-registry item for my first wedding with no gift receipt. Since it was an item they carried they let me 'return' it for store credit.

I would keep it. You will go through sets of pots and pans faster than you think and you'll be glad you have an extra!
