Bible Readings for Ceremony?

BunBuns, on March 6, 2013 at 11:27 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

What are some good Bible Readings for the ceremony?

Right now we are thinking of 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 and/or Colossians 3:12-17.

Suggestions, please!

We are using Song of Solomon 2:10-13; 8:6-7 NIV. Readings from Song of Solomon aren't often used, but the whole of Song of Solomon is really quite the passionate, love story

I think Romans 12:1-2,9-18 is a great alternative to 1Coronthians 13. It's different and not as expected.

    We're using 2 of these 3, haven't decided yet:

    Ephesians 5:21-31

    Colossians 3:12-17

    1 John 4:7-16

    Ruth 1:16-17

"Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people and your God, my God. Where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried. The LORD do so to me, and more also, If anything but death parts you and me."

    Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

    Matthew 19:4-6

Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

    Genesis 2:18-24

The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper -- as a counterpart for him." Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable counterpart was found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and He brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

    Romans 12: 9-21

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. On the contrary:

"If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Lisa I am so glad you asked this question. I hadn't even thought of the readings yet. I LOVE all these! My dad is a minister so I will defiantly be picking out a couple of these for him to read.

I believe my ceremony has two readings, and with my fiance not being religious, finding readings has been hard.

We're doing two readings and the Canticle of Love from the united Methodist hymnal. Look it up! It's a response reading and so beautiful!
