bhldn Alterations (nyc)

Ellen, on January 13, 2019 at 10:42 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 6

I bought my dress this weekend (yay!) from BHLDN. It needs some relatively minor alterations - snugger fit in the hips, cups, bustle. BHLDN sent me a list of recommended tailors which include Hallak Cleaners, Hemster, Pinpoint Bridal, Sew Elegant, and Ellen's Couture.

Has anyone (with a BHLDN dress or in general) used any of these tailors recently that they would recommend? I'm leaning towards Ellen's Couture because it looks like she has a location near me on the upper west side, but she has 2-3 reviews on yelp about her dog jumping all over the dresses that are making me nervous. All of her other reviews are excellent though.

Hi! I live in Brooklyn and got my dress from bhldn online. I took my Kenna gown to The Wedding Dresser in industry city, Brooklyn. Not sure of your whereabouts but was convenient for me, they came up on Wedding wire and have good reviews. They also respond to Yelp messages if you send them a link with your dress and the things you need, they can give you a ballpark for a quote. My alterations were similar (take in bust/sides of torso, add cups, small bustle, was $150 for a sheath dress with a sweep train and not many layers). Hope this helps!

If you were in the Los Angeles area I would hook you up with my lady, but that said, there is a bridal salon chain(they sell donated sample gowns to raise money for charity) that I swear by because it's where I got my dress. Their name is Glamour Closet and their number in (917) 409-5277. The reason I recommend calling them is they don't do in house alterations, but when you buy from them they hook you up with contact info of at least 6 of the best independent seamstresses in the city. If I was visiting New York and I needed a seamstress in a pinch, Glamour Closet would be the first number I would call.

Hey Ellen! So exciting that you found your dress!! BHDLN has such gorgeous gowns! As for the reviews about the dog, how recent were they? If they were from a while ago and there aren't any recent ones, I would trust that the problem has been fixed!

I just realized how old this post was but did you end up going with Ellen's couture because I was looking into a few places and that's on my list.

I did! She was great! No dog there the couple of times I went in for fittings. She did an amazing job with the alterations, you'd never know I had any changes made even though my dress had a pretty complex lace pattern and an unfinished lace hemline (which she shortened!). Price was reasonable, was easy to schedule appointments. She's not the warm and fuzzy, ask you how the wedding planning is going type but it didn't bother me in the least.
