BHDLN Dress - Alterations?

Wendy, on May 24, 2017 at 6:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

I recently bought my wedding dress from BHLDN and am so excited - I love it! However, I'm panicking about where to have alterations done. I'm NOT GOING TO GET ALTERATIONS YET - just want to know that when I do go I'm at a good place that won't screw it up, and I want to some estimate of how much it will cost.

Any recommendations for places to have alterations done where they are familiar with BHLDN dresses in CT or MA? I'm having a hard time finding the places recommended to me by the Chestnut Hill store. I live in CT so would prefer to stay local but am willing to drive a bit to make sure my dress doesn't get ruined. Thanks!

What makes BHLDN dresses different from an alterations standpoint?

Your wedding is a ways off so you don't need to do alterations yet. You might be a different size in 2018.

I got my dress from Bhldn - it's Watters. I found my seamstress on either WW or The Knot (I can't remember). She was really high rated in my area and once I asked around, apparently some of my coworkers and friends had used her in the past. I'm in a wedding before mine, so I had my bridesmaid dress altered first and she did an excellent job. I agree, any seamstress/tailor with experience altering wedding dresses should be able to handle a Bhldn dress (which sells many brands).

Which dress did you get?! I got the cassia. I'm just looking into local seamstresses hoping to find a good one.

What part of ct are you in? There's an awesome seamstress in Southington (central ct) who specializes in bridal - Charlottes sewing shop. Other than that, no advice. Sorry!

I also had a watters BHLDN dress, I took it to a seamstress with great reviews and had no issues. It didn't matter that the dress came from BHLDN.

ETA: I agree with @coffee...wait until next year for alterations.

It's the Cruz (which I believe is a Waters) - I'm just nervous because of the laser cut detail on the train and top - not being a seamstress or knowing anything about alterations I'm struggling to figure out how it will be hemmed/the shoulders & sides taken in without ruining the lace design.

I know I don't have to get the alterations yet, and I'm not going until next year, but I want to be prepared and know how much it will cost!

@FutureMrsG, I work in Bristol so I am definitely going to check out Charlottes Sewing Shop, thanks for the suggestion!
