Best Woman/Man of Honour

Bulbasaur, on September 18, 2017 at 2:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

Went to a wedding this past weekend where the bride had a Matron of Honour AND a Best Woman, and the groom had a Best Man AND a Man of Honour. What is that about? I've never heard of it, and would like to be educated. They also had 4 other people on both sides as bridesmaids and groomsmen.

It's about having the people that are closest to you stand by your side regardless of their sex.

PP - they were the same sex not different. ETA: At least that's how I understood it. There were basically 2 MOH and 2 Best Men. They just called the second something different. ?

Men and women have friends who are male and female, and while tradition used to be that the Bride had all women and the Groom had all men, people have started (FH and myself included) to just include those people next to us instead of across the aisle.

FH is having his sister as his Best woman, and I will have my sister and my best guy friend as Matron and Man of honor.

There is nothing to be educated on. They made up silly names for their 2nd MOH's/BM.

NIkNak- I dont think you read it right. Two women on brides side, two on grooms, then BM's and GMs.

@OGK - You're totally right, sorry got overly sensitive - I keep having to describe that same thing to my own parents that it's totally fine.

To re answer, I guess they just wanted to use those titles then, nothing new to learn.

I had just never seen that before. I've seen multiple Best Men and Maids/Matrons of Honour, but not multiple titles. Didn't know if it was different/new or just something they did to be unique.

They're all just labels. But its a good idea to make sure no one feels left out.

I'm most likely doing a Maid (best friend) and Matron (my older sister) of Honor just because I wanted them both to have a special honor!

Just a way to include them all. Matron generally refers to a married women, maid unmarried

I have a male best friend and he will be my man of honor. I will also have a maid of honor. These people are important to me, so I wouldn't even think about not including them or limiting either side to one person per title.

They wanted to give them "different" names so they could feel special.

We had a best woman. She's been best friends with my husband for years! It's very common nowadays. For the reception she just walked in next to the maid of honor, no biggie!
