Best way to get wrinkles out of tablecloths

JRA12216, on September 8, 2016 at 8:59 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 3 11

I bought all the table cloths and runners for my wedding. Does anyone have a suggestion on the best way to get the wrinkles out? Getting them pressed at the dry cleaners is outrageous price wise. Does throwing them in the dryer or steaming them at home work? Someone had suggested to me to just bring a steamer to the venue as I am setting up the tables.. .but I am nervous that it won't work well or will just take a longer time than the time allotted for setting up the night before.

What kind of fabric are they made out of? You have to be careful with ironing and steaming tablecloths that are synthetic as if you use the wrong setting on an iron, or you are too close with the steamer, you can melt the tablecloth.

I would find someone who knows what they are doing. Steaming would be your best option as you are less likely to melt a hole in it. However, it will take you longer.

Normally, you would iron tablecloths, but I've only ever used cotton or linen tablecloths.

Unless you have a commercial streamer it's going to take FOREVER. I would try taking them to a laundromat and using the huge dryers.

Have you tried the dryer yet? It was my last resort and it worked BEAUTIFULLY. No ironing/steaming required. I would suggest putting them through the rinse cycle and actually drying them rather than just throwing them in the dryer dry. Do a test run with just one and then decide.

I would personally wash them on cold first, they may smell from being stored and factory chemicals. then toss them in the dryer. or if you prefer to skip the wash, toss them in the dryer with a damp (clean) rag and it works like steaming

ETA make sure you get them out of the dryer right away, or else you might have new wrinkles to deal with

Thanks! I am definitely going to try one in the dryer just to see if it works then, if it does, roll the table cloth on a tube or something. I ordered a few extra in anticipation of needing to see what gets the wrinkles out. I do have permanent press setting on the dryer too

I would throw them in the dryer (medium or low heat) with one or two ice cubes for 15 minutes.

My mom taught me when ironing delicate fabric to place a towel on top. Polyester is not that delicate but should still work using a towel.

These suggestions are really helpful. I tried using the washer and dryer, even though the creases from the factory are gone there were wrinkles from the dyer that formed. This may be because I put too many of them in the dryer. I'll try putting a few of them (like 5) in the dryer bedsheet cycle to see if that work but if not I'll try using the iron over towel over tablecloth method. I have about 12 tablecloths. Thanks.
