Best pens/markers for Shutterfly guest books?

Danielle, on April 27, 2016 at 3:54 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 20

Hey guys! I was looking on Shutterfly's website and can't seem to find a clear answer here.

I made our guestbook through Shutterfly and it's one of the premium books with the lay-flat pages. What would be the best type of pen or markers to have out for signing? I don't want anything to smudge and the pages are sort of on the glossy side.

What are you using or did you use?

Thanks!

I would probably call Shutterfly customer service and see if they have a recommendation. They are usually pretty great anytime I have called. A really fine tip sharpie came to mind, but that could smudge if someone turns the page or rubs their hand on it before dry.

I googled this and found someone that did an experiment - ultra fine point permanent sharpie was the winner. Didn't smudge, didn't show through the other side of the page.

Amanda, I have looked for fine point sharpies in silver but have yet to find them! We are having a guest book poster and plan on using the sharpie pens which are like the fine point sharpies, but they do not bleed.

My research showed these (see pic) worked best because the writing dried the quickest on glossy but the downside is that many people said the markers dried out before they got to use them. So my plan is to use matte paper in our photobook instead and use ultra fine point permanent Sharpie as Britt suggested since they're the second best based on research.

I researched the same and found out that with time sharpies fade. It was recommended to buy a waterproof light fast artist pen. I bought it for my Guest Canvas and was planning on trying it out soon on a cardboard to see if its fine. They are available in different size tips depending on how thick you want it to write. Hope this helped.

I found these, but paint markers can take a while to dry:

I also googled a bit because I was super curious.

    And link to product:

I've seen these at most art supply stores.
