Best Man Might Get Deployed

Kristen, on July 7, 2019 at 2:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
My fiancé’s best man might be getting deployed before our wedding. Does anyone have any recommendations of how we can still honor him at our wedding? Pictures would also be helpful

Depending on the time difference, video chat him during the ceremony and/or reception if possible! Alternatively, you could have him record a toast/speech beforehand to play at the reception if calling isn’t an option (it could be a surprise for your fiancé too if you wanted)

You could always have the next person in line in the bridal party hold a framed picture of him during the ceremony but that may come across like a memorial. I love the idea for the pre-recorded speech. You can always have the officiant give him a special shout out in your ceremony too.

Yeah. If you do a photo, you might want to have a little explanation of the fact that he is deployed. Just to clear things up.

Welcome to the WeddingWire community Kristen! I think a prerecorded wedding speech would be the perfect way to involve the Best Man. He would still be able to fulfill one of his roles even though he isn’t actually present which would be really special to your FH, and to him.

Would this be something that would work?

Thank you so much for the great suggestions. I really like the idea of him still doing a speech. I think that would mean so much to him as well as my future husband

Also something small like yellow ribbons in flowers. Passing out yellow ribbon. Wishing him and you the best.

I went to a wedding where a groomsman was deployed three weeks before. They had a special thank you and best wishes to him on the program. You could also have him write his speech ahead of time so someone could read it at the reception if video would not be an option.

Jennifer, I really like the idea of having a special write up on the program. That is definitely something that I am considering doing. We are also going to have him video record his speech or have his brother say it in his honor.

CDickman, that is a great idea! Adding yellow ribbons would be a nice way to honor him.
