Best Little Man

Allaura, on July 30, 2019 at 5:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

Hey Everyone! Has anyone's fiance chosen a child as their best man before? My fiance seems to really want our son to be his best man and while I'm all for it, I'm just not sure how the logistics of it would work. Like he obviously wouldn't give like a speech but is there something else he could do? And like how would the procession work? Idk anyone else ever have this?

How old is he? I saw a video with a 7(ish) year old as the best man and he gave the sweetest speech. Depending on his age, I don't see why he couldn't walk down the aisle like any other best man would.

He'll be like 2.5 when we get married

That's why I'm not sure about it.

I think it would be super adorable to have him walk with your MOH! As far as the speech part.... that's a good question. I don't really have any suggestions.

You could have him be a junior best man and walk with a big one. I think it's really cute but at his age it might be overwhelming to do all the wedding things.

Do what feels right for you both... not what might be "acceptable " for spectators. This is your lives and your moments. Sometimes the person making the toast isn't best man... sometimes the maid of honor doesnt make a toast either. Figure out who is most dear to you and build the framework of your beautiful wedding.

I think that is really sweet. He can stand up there with you, but obviously he won't be giving a speech!

I like the idea, however 2.5 is really young, doubt he could give a speech, you could ask him if there is anything he wants to say but be prepared for anything ! kids say the darndest things. Only other thing I would say to think about is usually the best man signs as a witness on the marriage licence so you would need someone designated to do that who is older than 18.

My fiance is having my 4 year old son as his best man. But I’m having him walk me down the aisle with my dad and he will stand up next to my fiancé during the ceremony. We are having his brother who is a groomsman do the speech.

We don't care about the traditional roles of a wedding party. Our kids (9 at the time) will be my attendants and he will have a best man. It's who is important to us in everyday life.

Now at 2.5, he just needs to realize that a toddler won't stand up there for a ceremony and LOL at a speech. But it's about what and who is important to you both.

So when we get married my step-son who will be almost 21 will be a groomsman and our son who will be almost 9 will be our ring bearer. He’ll be older for a ring bearer but we don’t care.

My son is 7 and he will be the best man at our wedding. He is not my fiance's child but we have been together since he was 2 so hes like a dad to him. We arent doing best man speeche or a maid of honor speech. We will probably end up having our parents do a speech instead. But I think it's really adorable to have your son as a best man. I cant wait to be able to see the two men(boys) I love most in the world up at the altar waiting for me.

How about a Best Boy and a Best Man? My niece is 13 and offended by the insinuation that she would be a "junior bridesmaid" so she wants to be my Maid of Honor. She's going to be barely 15 at my wedding and so not ready for that, so my sister is going to be my Matron of Honor and do all of the "head bridesmaid" duties. Guys don't have that distinction because they are men and don't punish each other for being single, but I digress. For your situation, your son can be the "Best Boy" and you can have a Best Man that still does the heavy lifting logistically speaking. He can even hold your son's hand or carry/hold him. I think it could be cute.

I think that is adorable. I would have him walk with your husband and either hold his hand during the ceremony or sit with family in the front row. He can also have a 2nd best man if he wants that would do the traditional holding of the rings and making a speech

You really don't need a speech. If you want a toast, just ask another GM to give one. Or just skip it - no one will care. Other than that, just have him walk down and do everything else that a BM would do.

My husband did the same thing. His son was the official best man, but he walked the jr bridesmaids down the aisle. We put his best friend with the MOH - the only time it matters is during the introduction at the reception, and that's an easy conversation with the DJ (who should have taken notes for the names and pronunciations anyways)
