Why not? We are not paying for anything till we get there. Hotel reservations are made but paid when we arrive. Everything else we will pay for when we are there.

    Lol. Most definitely.

The OP's illogical idea of "my wedding is untraditional, therefore ettiqutte doesn't apply to me" has me all sassy today.

We are the same. Nothing will be paid until we get there and we can even cancel the hotel the day before. This is because we are not doing all inclusive (I imagine). That said we are not setting up a honeyfund for the sole purpose my FH older family are very technologically confused. We were going to send email save the dates then even questioned if they would read their email.

I say go for it because personally I have no issues with these minus the fee that is paid. That sucks!

In my family, monetary gifts are considered rude and thoughtless. So they are more likely to contribute to a fund for an experience than actually put cash in an envelope. With no registry, they are also still more likely to buy a physical item. If I had decided to do a Honeyfund or whatever that would be why.

But when they read that you aren’t actually getting the experience and just getting a check instead, would their opinion change?

I really don't think so. I've personally given gifts on Honeyfund and similar and much appreciated being able to choose something - and I know how the sites often work.
