Best dress for a "youthful" look?

romtina, on February 5, 2020 at 10:25 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

I am in my 40s and want to try to avoid "matronly" in my dress... What do you think would be the best style? Do you think lace sleeves make the wearer look more mature? Not sure if I should go for more covered or showing more skin... My body shape would probably work with any style, but obviously my skin is not as peachy as it was in my 20s. Ugh, didn't think it would be this difficult to decide on a dress! :-)

I don't think sleeves or lace inherently age a dress, it definitely depends on a lot of factors. My advice is to go and try them on and see how they look on you!

I like sleeves, sheer with a little lace is really nice. If you are going for a young look I would try trumpet and mermaid, something with structure.

I'm 45... No number defines you or your style. My first and second choices. The first is the one I'm wearing. Have fun and try not to judge until you see them on you. Best dress for a "youthful" look? 1

Thanks so much for your reply. Your dress is beautiful! Love the lace on the illusion neckline.

Thanks for your reply. I actually bought a dress today and kept your advice in mind. It has some structure and is a trumpet rather than the sheath styles I thought I wanted.

Same situation here. The gown for my first wedding was a ballgown, this time I want something more form-fitting. Good for you for going strapless!

I got it for the neckline and because of the lace that trails down on both sides of the skirt. Maybe I look matronly - or not - but I love my dress. And the mermaids just made me look naked and in lingerie. Ha! I have a woman's curves and 2 sons. I bought the dress that made me feel the way my fiance does - and that made all the difference. Try all sorts of different things on to start - and you'll get a feel for what is right for you, promise. Also, the second dress - my best friend loved. So, it hurt that I still chose another (and I haven't told her - eeep.) But, I finally figured out that she loved it because the dress suited her most. My sons were the ones that shared that I was wearing Auntie's dress. And that was exactly the case. I wanted soft and romantic and the second dress just wasn't that. Auntie is va-vooom, I'm more soft and subtle and love romantic things.

Thanks so much for your reply. Everyone at the store mentioned that sleeves looked great on me, but ultimately I picked a sleeveless v-neck dress because I loved other design elements on it more.

Yes, I get it now what it means when people say it's important how you feel when you are wearing the dress. I think you look awesome in your dress, it seems very light and airy and makes me think of Spring time. I finally made a decision today and I felt most like myself in the dress I eventually picked.

My wedding is in June to the most perfect person I've ever met. I love that it feels that way to others too. Do you have a picture of you in your dress? Or a dress or style number? I'd love to see it! ps. Do I look matronly? eep! lol!

I'm so glad that you are happy!

I’m 43 and wore a strapless tea length gown. Don’t worry about looking ‘matronly’, just find a dress you love.

No, not matronly at all! The exact opposite. Very sweet and flirty!

I’m 47 and I never considered my age when looking at dresses. It was all about how I felt in the dress!
