Do you mean like Styrofoam plates and plastic forks and knives? For a wedding?

Can't you rent real ones from your caterer or a rental company? It produces less trash for the landfill and looks infinitely better.

I second renting real ones. So much less trash.

I would look into rentals. Do you really want people to eat off plastic plates at your wedding reception?

There are some good fakes, and I certainly hope you aren't talking about that Chinet stuff or plastic cutlery -- not for a wedding. Plastic utensils are a nightmare. They're fine for birthday cake, but for an actual meal? No. They break, and having shards of plastic fork tines in your meal isn't fun. At least go to the dollar store and buy the metal stuff -- it's usually $1.00 for ten pieces.

I second renting the real stuff. It does make a difference. However, if your wedding is more laid back and you're sold on the plastic or cardboard plates, google it. There are lots of pretty designs available.

Smartyhadaparty and Costco have good heavy-duty plastic plates you can buy that look and feel nicer than the paper plates you buy from the grocery store. You can also look into compostable bamboo plates/napkins, they look nice and could be a great alternative!

Please keep in mind that plastic silverware can be very difficult to eat with (and cut food with in particular) so make sure you're not getting food you need real silverware for (skip the steak, for instance, since there will be no steak knives to cut with). BBQ or pasta bar may be a good alternative, but you'll still need to make sure your forks are sturdy enough to hold up to the food, whatever you decide.

Originally plan was to use what the venue offered, the plan still is to be honest.

But during one venue consult, the manager said I could get plates (not the paper one or the ones you purchase at dollar tree, but really good ones, even use utensils that will withstand usage) so it got me to think and Google some. I just came across "masterpiece plates"

I used Smartyhadaparty.com and they were great. They look nice on photographs and they held up to the BBQ we served.

Shipping is crazy expensive, so order everything you want from there once.

I'm refusing to rent because the companies I found want you to wash them before returning them. Yeah. Not happening. So I'm going to The Restaurant Store and buying an unreasonable amount of heavy-duty plasticware.

We got compostable bamboo ones that look amazing from either amazon or webstaurantstore.com. The wood silverware was gross though. Felt like those tongue dispensers. So we are still on the hunt for something.

Costco have plastic plates that look like China and silver plastic utensils that all can be recycled. They look like the real thing on pics. You don't know they are plastic until you pick them up. Even have gold trim on plates.
