Best Credit Card?

McKenzie, on November 7, 2019 at 4:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Throughout all of the wedding planning literature we’ve devoured, there is always some mention of using a great rewards card to pay for things IF you will genuinely use said rewards. We’d like to find a card that doesn’t have the worst interest rate ever and one that has pretty good points that can be used toward travel (helloooo honeymoon). Any recommendations??

We used chase Sapphire when we bought our house cuz we knew we would be spending at least $6-7k in the first couple of months. It didn't matter what the interest was cuz we paid it off the same month. I highly recommend having funds to pay it off right away or the interest will negate points you earn. It paid for our week in a 5 star resort in Mexico!!! Not all of it but I think we only had to pay $500 out of pocket...we also closed it in about 11 months because after the first year there is a $100 annual fee and it also sort of negates the points

Capitol One Venture Credit Card! It has 0% interest for the first year, but after that it’s your usual 20% interest rate. I’d recommend paying the card off 100% before the 0% is up! But the points system is amazing. Within the first few months I accumulated 30,000 points, which paid for a trip for FH & I (we like to travel often)! ✈️

I second the Capital One Venture card. You earn points that essentially erase your travel-related charges, so you can purchase tickets you want, without worrying about blackout dates or limited availability. You can also use it to erase hotel stays, AirBNB, Uber/Lyft charges, etc.

I use my Chase Reserve. There's an annual payment, but I don't mind paying it because I use it for the Priority Lounges and have also used the points to pay for 5 of my family members plane tickets for our destination wedding. I also can use it to order rental vehicles, but I have a guild membership that also gives me discounts for rentals which was cheaper than what Chase was offering me.

My FH open the Hyatt card just for our wedding because we get a couple of free rooms with it which we are going to use towards the trip.

Another one for the Capitol One Venture card. We just used our accumulated points to pay for our round trip tickets to the UK for our honeymoon. By the time the wedding rolls around, we'll probably have earned enough again to pay for one of our hotel stays.

I have chase sapphire. When I opened mine they were giving 60,000 bonus points for spending $3,000 in the first 4 months (or something like that). I use it for everything instead of my debit card. Then I just pay it off twice a month when I get my paycheck so we never have a balance

We used the Southwest Airlines Chase card, we got it during a promo in January 2019 that if you spend 4k in the first 3 months, you get a companion pass. So we didn't have to pay for any of my husband's flights to Hawaii.

We got our chase sapphire cards about 2 years before our wedding and racked up enough points to pay off half of our two week long honeymoon (round trip flights and hotel). Pointsguy.com site has a while breakdown of cards and rewards

There are a lot of credit cards that have 0% interest for the first year so you can look into those. If you're looking for travel specific, I would look at where you want to travel, what hotel/airline and get their specific credit card. For Example i have a united airlines credit card (its through chase) and my fiance has a hilton hotels credit card (through american express). They really do help maximize points!
