Best bra for the dress

Brittany, on November 19, 2019 at 8:09 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
So my dress came with the little standard pads but they offer no support for me. I’m a DD so obviously I’d like the girls to look nice and perky and of course stay in place all night! What’s your favorite bra or recommendation for my dress?

Have you looked on amazon? I found a strapless bra on there and it was honestly the best one I have ever found! Amazon might be a good way to try a bunch of styles and their return policy is super great too! Also...the price point is way better

Yup definitely have checked amazon. But you can’t exactly return the sticky bras that seem to have good reviews. Especially when it comes to being a DD, I’d rather have someone who’s tried something and it worked than purchasing a bunch of things and not being able to return everything

Daughter is a DD and had absolutely no luck with sticky bras.... They did nothing for her, and believe me, we tried EVERY possibility of bra options. Unfortunately, the only thing that worked was about $400 worth of alterations to the bodice of her dress, making a bunch of very minor adjustments (e.g., taking it in just a tiny bit on the sides so it was tighter on her ribcage, adding two sets of push-up pads [although, given her natural size, that was the last thing she expected them to need to do], etc.) Her dress fit her very well to start with and had a ton of built in structure/boning, but it took a lot of fine tuning for her to feel confident her breasts would be up where she wanted them to be without looking like what she described as the "St. Paulie's Girl." In the end, it was perfect and she looked amazing, but it took a lot of custom work rather than a buying a bra.... Good luck!

Ask your seamstress if she can sew support cups into your dress. That is what they did for mine and it worked perfectly.

I'm a DD as well and sticky bras don't work too well so that would definitely be trail and error. I have had cups down into a gown before and they are okay but I fear you wont think they are that supportive because they really aren't that great. Is your gown 100% fitted at this point? I squeezed mine in just right and didnt need a bra and my dress is very similar to yours. I still had the right amount of cleavage and everything.

My seamstress is my future mother in law and she said she’s not comfortable doing that type of alteration since these cups are already sewn in. She’s done great work everywhere else but that’s a tough spot for her. I also don’t want to spend the $300 just for the cup to be sewn in since all the shops around here do ‘full alteration packages’ only

Based on your current alterations plan, I'd try buying a variety of cups and push-up pads/cups (you should be able to get them at a large retailer that carries sewing supplies, like JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby, or from an online site). They won't cost much, so buying several options shouldn't be a big deal. Once your have them, ask FMIL to help you experiment with tacking them in at the bottom of the lower-half of the cups the dress already has. For example, in the photo Kayla posted, the bottom of the cups you're trying would align with the seam between the bottom of the dress cups and the boned midriff section. FMIL can tack them in with a couple quick basting stitches, or use small safety pins to hold them in place. You'll likely have to try the dress on multiple times and keep playing with where the cups need to be to give you the lift you want. When you try the dress on, with the extra cups in place, try bending at the waist and fitting your breasts into the cup space (like you might when putting on a bra), then stand up straight and have someone secure the back buttons. As I said in my earlier post, daughter's alterations person ended up using two sets of pads, one significantly more PUSH-UP and the second was small and softer. They played with exactly where to put them to effectively lift daughter's breasts in the dress just slightly, without pushing her up and/or in so much as to create excessive cleavage that she didn't want. Once it was clear what worked best, they retacked the pads to make sure they would stay put. Effectively, what they did was "stuff" the chest of daughter's dress so her breasts were very well situated in the bodice of the dress. She danced like a crazy woman for hours and her "girls" were secure all night! (Again, "stuffing" her dress was the last thing daughter thought she would need -- she's spent her whole life struggling with tops and dresses that would pull over her chest or be much too baggy everywhere else. Especially wedding gowns with a lot of structure seem to allow a lot of room in the chest. Good luck!)

PS -- another option would be to consider cutting up a bra you love that gives you the support you want. FMIL could potentially cut the sides off the bra, and then sew the front half of the bra -- basically just the cups -- into your dress (mostly tacking it at the side seams and/or at the base of the dress's cups, wherever she can anchor it without it showing or pulling on the dress). It would need to be a bra the provides the bulk of its support in the cups themselves, rather than in the band and/or straps. It's basically another option for getting the cups you want rather than buying them at a sewing store.

I would suggest getting a seamstress to add cups to the gown. My sister did that to hers and I also got the seamstress to ass cups to my bridesmaids dress and it was wonderful! I didn’t have to worry about any straps, bra digging into my skin or bulging. Also both my sisters wedding gown and my bridesmaids dresses were open back.

You can find sticky boobs that will lift your girls up as well. I wear them whenever I have a low-cut dress and they're amazing! I wear a size 32DDD so I can attest to their strength; granted, I've never gone dancing in it. You can also ask about adding boning to the cups of your dress so you don't have to wear a bra (this is what I'm doing).

What brands of stick bras have you used that worked?? Hmmm my future mother in law is doing all my alterations and has expressed that changing out the cups is difficult and would also change the structure of the top and I don’t wanna pay Miami seamstress prices just for the chest

I had my seamstress add cups to my dress during alterations and i guess technically went bra less and it worked perfect and was so comfy!
