Hey there!

I've been a bridesmaid in 9 weddings. The worst gift I got was not getting a gift at all. The night of the RD the bride and groom gave out all their gifts to everyone else in the room and completely forgot the Bridesmaids. The next day when getting ready she said sorry for forgetting your gifts. And handed us a small votive candle. Basically they came from the hotel gift shop! Then to top it off the thank you cards were printed out on the computer they didn't even hand sign them!

I've gotten all kinds of good gifts over the years. My fav was on the day of the wedding we all went and had a back massage together. She gave us some lotions and soaps from B & BW. And also gave us the jewelry to wear with the dress.

What do you have in your mind to share with me? Please share any of your experience about this.

Jennifer.

I was a bm once and it was done as an extreme favor to a family friend. The original bm bailed a day before the ceremony. So she asked me since I was the only one small enough to fit in the dress.

Not to be superficial ... But she gave me one of those seashell necklace u get in Hawaii ( where they honeymoon). Sorry I would have prefer that she didn't give me anything at all. What am I going to do w that necklace???

As favor to several friends... I've done their n their bm hair n makeup. There's one that I got a really thoughtful card n gift card from. Then there are others who does not know what thank u is. I don't need a gift but at least a thank you would have been nice.

For my BMs we treated them to dinner during some of the outings ie dress shopping, dress fitting etc Their jewelry for the day of are gifts from us. Their hair n makeup are all comp. Then after the wedding n honeymoon --we came back w personalized souvenir for each member n treated them to a formal dinner

Worst BM gift ever-5 min. before the bride and groom were leaving the reception, the bride comes up saying oops i almost forgot and basically throws me my gift. 2 small makeup bags with bridesmaid written on them...still in the square, clear plastic package they were bought in (looked like it came from the clearance section of walmart). not wrapped, not even stuffed into a cheap gift bag. There was also no card or note of thanks with it at all. Nor did i ever receieve any note of thanks for my gifts to her for the wedding

Worst gift I ever received was when the bride spent "too much" on the gifts "on accident," and asked all the bridesmaids to pay her for a portion of our gifts. Then our gifts were all things she just wanted for photos that were meaningless to us - matching robes (never wore again), hangers with our names and the word "bridesmaid" underneath (when am I ever going to use that again?) and our wedding jewelry (her style, not mine).

One of my good friends from High School got married a while ago and she chose a bunch of girls to be in her wedding. The most annoying part of being in the wedding was that the MOH was back and forth about being in the wedding, so being the next closest friend in line, I stepped up and took the MOH's place....FAIL!!! I ended doing most of the dress shopping alone with the bride as well as doing my hair along with 7 other BM's hair the night before. I was not paid as promised and received some earrings to wear to the wedding that turned my ears green before the end of the night. Not a good experience!

I have asked my sister's to be in my wedding and I am planning a lot for them. I am paying for hair and makeup as well as giving them a nice gift bag full of makeup that they like and stuff they can wear to the wedding. I was also thinking of the massage thing since one sis has 3 girls and the other is always pressed for time and stressed at work. I like the idea of gifts that will help them outside of my wedding. Although the wedding is the main event, you have to be sure to take care of them outside of that too. Maybe I just feel that way cause they are my sisters!

Best was a nice picture frame with a childhood picture of myself and the bride.

Worst was an assortment of gas station liquor shooters while I was 6 months pregnant...

For my girls I'll be buying them embroidered robes, a gold necklace to wear at the wedding, a bottle of Dr. Who themed nail polish and I'm paying for hair and makeup.

I'm getting these cute Living Locket necklaces for my girls. The charms for the wedding day will coordinate with our theme, each girls dress color (they're all different), and each girls initial...But I'm also getting extra charms that are personalized to each girl's every day life so they'll be able to change them and wear them again.

I have never been in a wedding but i did attend my future sister in law's in 2014. She got her girls robes for the morning of, a monogrammed Scout bag, necklaces, and i believe little things to fill the bags.

I also have 7 bridesmaids and I plan to spend $100 or less on each but I am huge in practicality so things like bags, or wine glasses (beer mug for the beer freaks), jewelry, all need to be useful that day and days after.

So I don’t wanna Hijack but starting a separate thread on the same subject seems silly.

Do people really go all out for this?

I was thinking of getting my BMs/MOH these cute candles I found on Etsy, plus stuff like nail polish and face masks, maybe some makeup/makeup brushes. Maybe some bath bombs. Basically just super girly things that will make them feel good.

Like a beauty kit. Is that not good enough?

    Hi Trisha!

You're doing fine! it seems like the "bad" gifts are those that come off as an impersonal after thought, while the "good" gifts are the ones that are personal, useful or took effort on the bride's part. I think that its a quality vs quantity thing, a personalized collage will go further with your bridal party than a giant bag bursting at the seams with things they likely will only use once. You asked them to stand with you because they are important to you and it sounds like the gift should say just that! Plus the wedding costs enough, no need to pile on!

I haven't been in a wedding, so I went based on what I saw in pictures of friend's weddings.

My girls are all wearing different dresses, so I got them all earrings, then either a necklace or bracelet, based on the dress neckline. My MOH is getting all three pieces in the set. I also purchased large canvas totes which I plan on using my Cricut to put the logo used on our favors (Koozies) and the BM's name on. Last, I bought everyone a cotton tank dress that I will personalize for us to wear while getting ready. It comes out to a little under $100 per gift, plus time spent on each gift.
